Salisbury flies in to scoop energy award

S

alisbury Group - the provider of building energy and facilities management solutions - received a prestigious award at the recent Energy Awards. The company was announced as the winner of the Lighting Energy Impact Award for its landmark energy transformation at Cardiff Airport.

The results of the Energy Awards 2018 were revealed at Hilton Park Lane in London, where the energy industry elite came together for a night of recognition and celebration of the sector's achievements. An expert judging panel from across the industry unanimously chose Salisbury Group as its winner following a rigorous selection process. Cardiff Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in the UK. As the key national transport hub for Wales, it serves 18 airlines flying to over 50 direct destinations and over 900 connecting destinations. Almost 1.5 million passengers travel through the airport every year.

The energy transformation project at Cardiff Airport will reduce lighting bills by over 50 per cent and save around £1.7 million to 2030. It will also reduce the airport's environmental impact through a 224,000kg CO2 annual carbon abatement. Ed Swales, CEO, Salisbury Group, said: "This award recognises our success in designing and delivering critical energy projects. Our innovative approach is already providing financial savings and reductions in carbon emissions at the airport and we are pleased that the industry has recognised our achievements. We are proud to have supported our client's clear vision to be an outstanding capital city airport and we look forward to delivering further energy transformations for other leading clients."

here is a fresh team leading the Institute of Demolition Engineers following the

appointment of a new president and election of a vice-president at the organisation’s annual general meeting. Gary Bishop, managing director of Bromley Demolition, becomes the IDE’s new president after taking over from David Darsey at the end of his two- year tenure.

Bishop, who has worked with Bromley Demolition since 1979 and will be marking 40 years with the company this year, said: “I would like to thank David Darsey for his hard work and commitment to the Institute throughout his term in office. “I am extremely proud to follow him through the presidency of the National Federation of Demolition Contractors and now into the IDE.

“It’s an exciting time for our demolition and I look forward to working with

Richard Dolman and others in our organisation to promote the important work our industry does.” Meanwhile Richard Dolman was elected vice- president, marking a final success of 2018 for the managing director of East Midlands firm AR Demolition. Dolman said he was proud to be elected into his new position, following the announcement at the AGM held in Drapers Hall in London earlier this month. The honour caps an eventful year for AR Demolition in which the company, which is based near Nuneaton, achieved record turnover and was named in the London Stock Exchange Group’s prestigious ‘1,000 Companies To Inspire Britain’ report.

He said: “AR Demolition is becoming recognised as a truly innovative, cutting- edge company and we are doing our part to help create a demolition industry for the future.”
