EDITOR’S COMMENT & CONTENTS HVAC leads the way in innovation

I

t was heartening to see so many HVAC and building services firms playing a leading role at COP26 last month.

The summit finally reached its conclusion with global leaders etching out a last-minute consensus on keeping the 1.5 degrees Climate Pact alive. With such a significant percentage of a building’s emissions coming from HVAC systems, the industry must be at the forefront in finding the solutions that will help to safeguard the planet for future generations.

Numerous pieces of legislation have been introduced in recent years aimed at reducing carbon emissions and many of these directly affect HVAC systems.

It’s also likely we can expect even more regulation to follow as we near the Net Zero target date. But far from displaying resistance, HVAC firms are leading by example in developing innovative new products which will transform the way we heat, cool and ventilate our buildings.

I don’t doubt this trailblazing spirit will continue and we will see new exciting, and possibly game- changing, technology being introduced. This issue highlights a few examples of both existing and innovative approaches to decarbonisation which are definitely worth a read. Our features cover subjects of ventilation, maintenance, pumps, chilled ceilings & beams and HVAC innovation.
