The next level of modular industrial connectors

this evolution as they offer flexibility, security, and durability to users. HARTING is skilled at producing robust industrial connectors and the company’s latest connectivity solutions allow machine builders to deliver future-proof solutions to their customers. When Han-Modular was first released back in 1993, it was the first modular industrial connector to run power, signal, and data alongside each other in a single connector. Now the next development stage of the modular connector is upon us with the launch of the new Han-Modular Domino range, which offers significant improvements for machine building thanks to space savings of up to 50 per cent, compared to existing designs.

T Just as dominoes have

two separate squares, a domino module is made up of two building blocks or ‘cubes’. The Han- Modular mating face is divided in two, resulting in an almost square surface in which even larger contacts can be accommodated. These cubes allow users to configure customised connectors which are exactly tailored to their design requirements. Power, signal, data or compressed air can now be combined in one module, reducing the total number of interfaces required.

he manufacturing industry continues to evolve quickly as new machinery becomes ever more intelligent and adaptable to meet customer demands. Connectors are a vital element of

Also, as the connection technology becomes smaller and more lightweight, users can now fit more modules and module types than before into one connector. As a result, assembly areas which are difficult to reach can be equipped more efficiently or even opened up for assembly in the first place.

With the addition of the new Domino range there are now over 250 modules to choose from and many thousands of potential combinations available, increasing design flexibility. The new Domino modules are also compatible with standard components of the Han-Modular series so they can be easily integrated into existing systems and machinery. Another modular range which delivers time- saving benefits is Han-Eco, a series of hoods and housings available in a variety of designs including bulkhead, surface mount, and cable-to-cable.

The main advantage of using Han-Eco in machine building is the time-savings that can be achieved by rear mounting inserts in control and switch cabinets. Engineers no longer need to install cables through the bulkhead mounted housing before assembling the contact

inserts. Instead, pre-assembled inserts are directly snapped into the housing from the

rear, simplifying assembly and saving time. This design feature also allows you to pre-assemble the switch cabinet units and cable harnesses separately, further improving efficiencies. Han-Eco housings are compatible with both

monobloc and modular inserts, giving you an unparalleled choice of data, signal and power options. Furthermore, Han-Eco is entirely

compatible with standard metal Han housings, meaning both variants can be integrated into your production equipment. Han-Eco is manufactured from high-

performance polyamide plastic, which complies with standards IEC 61948 and EN 45545-2. The range offers IP65 protection and substantial weight savings compared to traditional metal housings. The hoods and housings are suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. If you are seeking a more compact connector, the Han 1A has been designed to take up less installation space. Constructed from lightweight yet durable polyamide plastic, the Han 1A can also integrate contacts for the delivery of data, signal and power. In mechanical engineering, it provides an

efficient solution for connecting tools and smaller machine modules such as heating and cooling units, fans, control terminals, lighting systems, drives and vibration conveyors. As well as supplying standardised products for machine building, HARTING can also build customised solutions at its manufacturing facility in Northampton. Specialisms include bespoke box builds and control panels with additional support such as routing cable harnesses, fabrication, prototyping and thorough in-house testing of cabling and wiring available. HARTING also manufactures cable

assemblies for the UK market and can offer you standard or custom cable lengths and a range of plastic or metal housings. The facility holds ISO 9001 certification for Quality Management, the ISO 14001 Environmental Standard and UL certification for Wiring Harnesses ZPFW2 / ZPFW8.
