ABB AND BILFINGER TO HELP INDUSTRIES BOOST EFFICIENCIES WITH INSTRUMENTATION AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES
BB has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Framework Agreement with international industrial services provider Bilfinger to collaborate on instrumentation and digital solutions boosting operational efficiencies in the energy and process industries.
The agreement aims to strengthen the offering of instrumentation and digital technologies to several industries including energy, chemicals & petrochemi- cals, pharma & biopharma and oil & gas, among others. The key focus in the energy sector is on sustainable sources that drive the transition, particularly in the hydrogen and carbon capture (CCUS) market.
The collaboration will see the two companies combine their respective strengths. ABB offers a broad and innovative portfolio of instrumentation and digital solutions, while Bilfinger brings comprehensive expertise in both conven- tional and renewable energy contexts and a portfolio that benefits process industries along the entire value chain.

Together, we can ensure the perfor- mance of every step is optimised, helping process industries perform leaner and cleaner, and deliver efficiency gains.”
The agreements cover two main areas of collaboration. The first main area of collaboration is in maintenance and replacement orders: Bilfinger manages maintenance contracts that cover, amongst others, instrumentation upgrades, spare parts orders and replacement of equipment and pipelines. It will rely on ABB for the supply of instrumentation such as flowmeters, pres- sure, temperature, level and other sensors and transmitters as well as flow computers and digital services.
The second main area of collaboration is in new greenfield and brownfield projects: ABB and Bilfinger will jointly go to market to address the efficiency needs of customers supplying solutions in new projects for the energy (including hydrogen and CCUS) and process industries.

CHELL INSTRUMENTS DONATES LATEST PRESSURE SCANNER
hell Instrument has donated its latest pressure scanner to Sheffield University’s racing team to support vehicle development for the Formula Student competition in 2025.
Having received the latest nanoDAQ-LTS-16 from Chell Instruments, students from the Sheffield Formula Racing team can now gather precise aerodynamics insights during on-track testing. “We’re thrilled to receive this equipment from Chell Instruments which gives us the opportunity to test and validate our vehicle’s design. As we do not have a wind tunnel, Chell has provided us with the tools to help us optimise aerodynamics with real-world data gathered on the test track,” commented Mark Byers, head of Marketing and Comms at Sheffield Formula Racing. Sheffield Formula Racing is a student-led team that unites engineering students from across the University of Sheffield to design, manufacture and race a single seat formula-style racing car. Hosted at the Silverstone National Race Circuit, the annual Formula Student Competition sees over 100 university teams from around the world compete, earning points for both static and
dynamic events to determine the best vehicle. Now entering their 16th Formula Student Compe- tition, Sheffield Formula Racing has a strong track record with many podium finishes and winning the championship in 2021.
By using the lightweight nanoDAQ-LTS-16 pres- sure scanner, the Sheffield team can make better designs decisions by measuring air pressure across components such as the front wing, rear wing, sidepods and under tray.
“Sheffield Formula Racing are a fantastic team of aspiring academics that have delivered excep- tional results in the Formula Student Competition. When we learned that their aerodynamic devel- opment was limited by a lack of wind tunnel, we were eager to provide the technology which could push their vehicle design forward on the test track,” said Jamie Shanahan, director at Chell Instruments. For over 40 years, Chell Instruments have been providing pressure, vacuum and gas flow meas- urement equipment. Their products serve a wide range of industries, including aerospace, pharma- ceuticals, energy, and motorsport.
Chell’s technology plays a crucial role in aero- dynamic testing for top Formula 1 teams, enabling
engineers to analyse vehicle properties, refine performance, reduce drag and increase down force in their race-winning cars.
“At Chell, we are always eager to support the next generation of engineers, and we’re excited to see Sheffield Formula Racing leverage our nanoD- AQ-LTS-16 to deliver a, hopefully, championship winning design!,” concluded Shanahan.
