HIGH PERFORMANCE METER FOR MEASURING LOW FLOWS

sound waves travelling down the Atrato flow tube are symmetrical, and as a result, any changes in a fluid’s velocity profile across the pipe diameter will be averaged out by the signal as it passes from the transmitter to the receiver. As a result, the Atrato gives unmatched performance when metering low flows whether laminar or turbulent, and is also largely immune from viscosity. Its rugged, clean bore construction makes the Atrato ideal for almost any low flow application, from research and development, to industrial processes and even metering of chemically challenging liquids.

ALPHASENSE BOLSTERS SALES TEAM WITH THREE NEW APPOINTMENTS

gas sensors, has announced the appointment of three new senior sales positions. Andy Dickinson joins as Regional Sales Director (RoW), Will Parrett as European Sales Manager, and Nate Thompson as North American Sales Manager. Welcoming them to the company, Arthur Burnley says: “Since 1996, Alphasense has grown rapidly as a result of heavy investment in research & innovation, sensor quality and customer service. We now command a 40% share of our core markets, and this success has been built on the development of strong partnerships with our instrument manufacturer customers. “The addition of three highly talented people to our international sales team is the

through QDUKI’s partners, Lake Shore Cryotronics, the company has strengthened its cryogenics offering. QDUKI is also particularly proud of its involvement with the international effort to conserve helium through the launch of a new generation of helium recovery systems. QDUKI has been involved with cryogenics now for 12

years both as a manufacturer and a distributor of low temperature instrumentation and has continually added to supplying materials characterisation products from other leading vendors. The company firmly believes it has the best combination of instrumentation in cryogenics for investigation of new materials and for the optical Quantum computing QUBIT Technology revolution.

YOKOGAWA’S EUROPEAN CALIBRATION LABORATORY MEETS NEW ISO17025:2017 STANDARD

revision of ISO 17025:2017 standard, for power measurements at up to 100 kHz. This accreditation offers quantifiable proof of the laboratory’s advanced calibration offering, ensuring users of the facility achieve the world’s most accurate measurement results from their power measurement equipment. The standard ISO/IEC 17025:2017, General requirements for the competence of testing

and calibration laboratories, enables both Yokogawa’s European Standards Laboratory and its customers to demonstrate that they operate competently and generate valid measurement results, promoting confidence in their work both nationally and around the world. Test reports and certificates can be accepted from one country to another without

the need for further testing. This makes ISO/IEC 17025 accredited calibration useful for any organisation that performs testing, sampling or calibration and which requires reliable measurement results.

INTERFACE LOAD CELLS IN MEDICAL APPLICATIONS

Stent Material Testing Large testing rigs that contain approximately a dozen Interface load cells are used to test stents and heart valves that are surgically implanted into patients. The rigs subject the stents and heart valves to thousands of stress tests determine their material properties. Stents are in a patient’s body for life, so accuracy and durability are very important. This application uses Interface’s MBP overload protected load cells. This MBP is extremely reliable and has never had reported fatigue failure.

Below are just a few examples of how Interface load cells are supporting medical innovation.

Plasma Separation Interface’s MB low-capacity aluminium bending load cell is used in plasma separation machines which take blood directly from the patient, separates it in a centrifuge with the saline solution pumped back into the patient. Each machine has two load cells, playing a vital role in the accuracy of the process.

Robotic Surgery A developing technology is the ability to perform remote surgery, using robotic arms. Interface Inc has developed modified, custom load cells to meet the challenging requirements of this new technology.

Designing for Medical Applications Beyond accuracy, there are several considerations when designing and building load cells for medical applications. Factors such as traceability and the materials used are important. Materials need to be certified and free of hazardous compounds, suitable for sterile environments. There are unique considerations and failure is not an option when it comes to devices that can directly impact patient safety.
