ABB WINS PRESTIGIOUS RED DOT AWARD FOR THE PRODUCT DESIGN OF ITS NEW ULTRASONIC LEVEL TRANSMITTER
accuracy and optimizes performance in industrial water processes. ABB’s LST200 ultrasonic level transmitter was
T
awarded best in category for physical, as well as technical, design. The winning ABB transmitter is particularly notable for solving the surface condensation challenge often faced by process owners, where a buildup of water has historically affected accuracy of essential plant readings. The LST200 uses active surface technology known as a “Lotus Effect” whereby surface liquid will fall off before it pools into larger droplets that could then cause problems, offering an efficient and cost-effective solution. The Red Dot Award is a highly regarded international design prize which began in
1955. More than 15,000 admissions are submitted annually from over 70 countries around the world. The Red Dot Awards jury said “This robust level gauge impresses with a simplicity
that has been thought through down to the last detail. It presents itself as a proven means of ensuring efficiency and reliability.”

SMALL DRIVES DELIVER SMART CONTROL OF LOCAL SINGAPORE LANDMARK
C
ontrol Techniques' Unidrives are driving down energy demand with smart control for a local attraction.
Singapore based company Navitech, which delivers innovative mechanical & electrical
designs and installations, has utilised Control Techniques' Unidrive M200 range in a novel installation, known as the Dolphin Fountain - a spectacular display of dolphins 'playing' among sprays of water.
Exploiting M200's communication flexibility, Navitech integrated the drives into the
fountain control system via Ethernet IP. The variable speed drives control the compressors to regulate the jet sprays' height, using the Modbus protocol, creating an attractive display.
M200's onboard PLC boosts the intelligent control. Engineers can now program the
fountain display from a remote app, saving both time and resources. Furthermore, Unidrive M200 has an easy-to-use fixed LED keypad, and a practical,
hard-to-miss parameter guide on the front of the drive, which aids set-up, relieving some of the pain points installers typically face.
Mars You, Managing Director of Navitech, says, "Our end customer is thrilled with the
outcome of this project. They are saving 20-30% of energy compared to DOL running mode/soft starter. The compact size of M200 – it is among the smallest in class - made installation straightforward and generally easier to manage, reducing the space and cost required.
Our end customer received an excellent quality product that offers more functionality
than they had previously. Our experience with Control Techniques has been superior; the team provided strong technical support and is always quick to respond to queries."

features to support an organisation’s compliance to the FDA 21 CFR Part 11 regulation has long been a problem in the medical industry where data integrity is key to safe, traceable materials testing of pharmaceuticals and medical devices. With the launch of the NexygenPlus 4.1 materials testing software and its advanced security module, Lloyd Instruments offers a complete materials testing solution integrated into an organisation's Active Directory (AD) including IQ/OQ and test result verification. Developed under ISO 9001 procedures, Lloyd Instruments partners with users to review the technical controls within NexygenPlus 4.1 and how they can assist an organisation to be FDA 21 CFR Part 11 compliant.

TITAN EXPLAINS THE FACTORS THAT DETERMINE FLOW METER PERFORMANCE
The article discusses the factors involved in determining the overall performance of pulse output turbine flow meters and how each factor influences the accuracy of flow measurement. Turbine flow meters are invaluable measurement tools, and their repeatability and
T
linearity are the key elements that determine the flow meter’s performance and overall accuracy. Both the mechanical properties of the flow meter and the physical properties of the fluid combine to influence the general performance of the flow measurement device. Terms synonymous with calibrating flow meters – the K-Factor, calibration
uncertainty, repeatability, accuracy and linearity – are explained. The technical article discusses the relationship between all these flow factors and how they each influence the overall performance of a flow meter.
