TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION ADVERTORIAL Standing the test of time F

or over 65 years, Sangamo has been manufacturing its famous Round Pattern Time Switches to the same high

standard that was first achieved back in the 1950’s. With over 11 million units sold to date, the installation of a Sangamo Round Pattern Time Switch (RPTS) used to be a regular job. Despite the electro-mechanical time switches being less common today, the company still reports sales of thousands of units each month.

The switches are split into four categories three-pin and four-pin connections. Three-pin switches have common clock and switch connections. This means that the same 230V ac live supply used to run the clock is also used as the live input for the switching circuit. Four-pin switches have independent clock and switch connections which enable a different AC switching circuit voltage to be controlled from that of the 230V required to run the clock, for example to switch a 110V ac machine.

major shows in 2019, which include FIREX, CEF Live and ELEX. A new modern style has been adopted, making for a light, open, accessible stand design. The new Aico stand features a central hub surrounded by customer seating for on stand meetings and presentations. From the top of the hub, four ‘spokes’ extend across and down to each corner of the stand, featuring graphics, screens for presentations and wall mounted product on key Aico alarm series’ and technologies. 2019 will see an emphasis on Aico’s new 3000 Series, which encompasses both fire and CO detection, providing whole property coverage from one series. A highlight of the 3000 Series is Aico’s very first Multi-Sensor Heat & CO alarm.

MACKWELL PROVIDES EMERGENCY LIGHTING TO BBC'S DIY SOS: THE BIG BUILD SPECIAL

A

s part of the BBC’s DIY SOS: Big Build project, Mackwell provided its emergency lighting systems and technical expertise to an

ambitious project to create the North Kensington Community Centre and rebuild the Dale Youth Boxing Club which was destroyed in the Grenfell Tower fire. A variety of Mackwell’s emergency lighting luminaires were used across the two buildings. Dominic Meyrick comments: “Emergency lighting should be clean and unobtrusive and Mackwell achieves this in a luminaire that is essentially ‘a really clever box’.” Mackwell’s non-maintained emergency lighting with LED was specified and these incorporate an inverter and small battery packs. In particular, the Maxwell XYLUX LS IP65 fitting was used

because it can be placed in high ceilings, mid-height ceilings, open areas and escape routes, with optics tailored to the light distribution required.

No more false alarms following Northern Ireland Housing Association’s switch to Aico alarms

Smoke Alarms with Aico’s Multi-Sensors and Ei164e Heat Alarms in more than 80% of its properties. Established in 1977, Grove Community Housing

G

Association manages 218 properties in North Belfast, which are a mixture of new builds and renovated existing dwellings.

The Multi-Sensor Fire Alarms contain two sensor types, optical and heat, to constantly monitor smoke and heat

levels, sending and receiving information via its intelligent detection software, for fast response and reduced false alarms; the latter is enhanced through a dust compensation feature. Since the new Aico alarms have been installed, Denis states that he has not had any false alarms reported.

Furthermore, the installer confirmed there were no faulty alarms which is testament to Aico’s quality control. Aico

Wieland’s wienet Managed Switches provide full network control

T

he new wienet Managed Switches from Wieland Electric allow full control and diagnosis of industrial Ethernet networks. By means of standard ring topology, the

switches allow redundant topologies and thereby boost network availability. These switches offer protection against unauthorised access/data traffic, greater resilience and prioritisation of data with real-time requirements. wienet Managed Switches support processes including ERPS, RSTP, STP and MRP for

Profinet networks (certified up to Conformance Class B) and are adapted for Ethernet IPs. Different port variants from 10/100 Base-T(X) RJ45 ports to variable SFP ports and even Gigabit Combo ports allow for optimal adaptation to the application environment. The full PoE+ performance of 30 W can be tapped with a 51 VDC power supply up to a maximum of 8 ports. The switches meet the highest requirements with their operating temperature range of -20°C to 75°C as well as their excellent MV properties.

Scolmore launches new online Product Finder

wholesalers and end users to search and locate products from across all categories, with just a few clicks.

S

Users select the range they are interested in – wiring accessories, lighting, essentials and Click Smart – and can browse through every category with ease. They can also search by finish, product type, or even brand, adding products to the basket as they go along.

For the electrician, it allows them to create a basket which can then be exported as a CSV file to send to their wholesaler for a quote or a purchase. The electrician can also direct their end user customers to the site to browse the products and create a wish list of items they will need for a particular project.
