EDITOR’S CHOICE PRODUCTS HANDLING THE INDUSTRY

KEEPING ENGINEERS SAFE M

anufacturer of electrical test equipment, Martindale Electric, has supplied Baxi Heating with testers for checking appliance wiring and

earthing, together with locking off devices to ensure circuits can be safely isolated before carrying out any work. The tools keep gas service engineers safe when installing and servicing

heating equipment and are essential for achieving compliance with the latest Gas Safe Register guidance TB118 2018. The changes mean new test procedures are now required to keep service

engineers safe from electrical hazards. In addition to carrying out safe isolation procedures to prove that circuits are dead and locked off, the new guidance now requires verification of mains earthing. After researching the market, Baxi Heating has provided 250 of its

T

he ubiquitous need to allow an interface for the human hand with industrial equipment of all sizes has led EMKA to offer its 1095

program of handles which it says are easy to use and easy to install. Known as bow handles, bridge handles or simply as pull handles,

the versions from EMKA come in comfortable round or oval grip styles, and are readily fixed from front or rear depending on type. Available sizes are suitable for single hand use from 120mm up to 500mm in length. Longer handles to span wide panels or for double hand operation of

heavy lids, for example, are designed as tubular module installations with end brackets and intermediate supports as required. For equipment carrying or for packing cases, the EMKA 1095

program includes chrome-plated or stainless steel handles – also a recessed version and iys edge/corner mounting tubular handle which serves as a convenient corner stand and protection device.

trainers and engineers with a range of Martindale Electric equipment, which includes the EZ650 earth loop and polarity checker for socket and spur testing. The EZ650 simplifies the process for identifying a satisfactory earth, by combining a basic socket tester with an earth loop check that uses clear red/green LEDs, making it easy to interpret the results and see whether the earth loop value is within acceptable limits. The EZ650 socket and loop tester can be used on both 13A sockets and fused spurs to quickly identify a hazardous earth before starting work. This approach offers a simple solution to complying with TB118. Founded in 1866, Baxi Heating is a part of BDR Thermea, one of Europe’s

largest manufacturers and distributors of domestic and commercial water and space heating systems. The company has more than 6,400 service engineers worldwide.

CUBE RELAYS REMAIN POPULAR

A

vailable from specialist distributor, Switchtec, are a range of cube relays manufactured by Hongfa. The humble cube relay remains popular, due to its robust construction and simple design and, along with its interchangeability, Switchtec says it offers an excellent price to performance ratio in the range of six to 16 Amp PCB relay. Hongfa has invested heavily in the manufacture of the cube relay

which is in contrast to other manufacturers - some of which have reduced capacity, whilst others have withdrawn from manufacturing this style of relay completely. Today, the company produces 300 million cube relays annually. There are many applications for the cube relay, but the white goods

industry is still one of the largest, with other applications including electric and hybrid vehicles for onboard charging, electrical bed control in the health sector, HVAC for use in thermostats, robotics, remote RF control, and uninterruptible power supplies. Over the many years in

which the cube relay has been manufactured it is technically almost

unchanged and has become established as a go-to relay in numerous industrial applications. Hongfa’s portfolio of cube relays includes 12 variants from the HF3FA and HF3FF, rated at 10 Amp for general switching control; the HF7FF and HF7FD, rated at 12A for a higher performance, to the HF152F, offering a 16 Amp change over contact arrangement. Other features available are class F Coils, fully sealed construction, normally open and normally closed versions and IEC 60335-1 (glow wire test) compliant versions for use in domestic appliances. Further development of Hongfa’s range includes the HF3F-L relay, which represents a logical next step in the cube relay’s development. Requiring no permanent power to the coil, it reduces power consumption, giving an energy saving over a standard cube relay. Hongfa’s cube relay range carries approvals from internationally recognised approval bodies, including cULus, CQC, TUV & VDE.
