New SPD range introduced
Fully compliant with the new 18th Edition wiring regulations, Lewden has introduced a new and improved range of consumer units with added features, along with a new range of SPDs
T
he company’s range of metal consumer units has
typically been designed to be easily installed, aesthetically pleasing and unobtrusive, making them suitable for both domestic and commercial installations. The range consists of six enclosure modular sizes - 4, 8, 10, 12, 16, and 21 - with earth and neutral terminal bars clearly labelled and positioned at the top of the base. The unit has ample wiring space with a selection of knockouts, mini trunking and conduits to ensure quick and neat installation. The range has a maximum of 19 usable ways in a variety of layouts including populated enclosures such as populated RCBO, populated MCB, RCCB, dual RCCB, main switch, RCCB, split load board as well as unpopulated enclosures for housing modular components or to allow onsite design and assembly of one-offs. The units also contain a shroud for the protection of live bus bars. To allow for the installation of
SPD, one extra module of space has been provided within the new consumer units, without increasing the overall dimensions of the enclosure. Two additional 32mm circular knockouts, positioned at the top and bottom, in line with the main switch, have also been provided to accept the mains tail cable glands. Lid earth connected directly to an additional way provided on the earth bar ensures ease of installation. To allow for the fitting of mains tail clamp, fixing holes have been provided in the DIN rail at the main switch position. The accessories will now also include two cable grommets, one of each size 40mm x 25mm and 50mm x 50mm.
24 MAY 2019 | ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING Lewden’s new range of SPDs are
available in Type 2 and Combined Type 1, 2 and 3 for both single and three phase applications. To allow for the installation of an SPD, one extra module of space has been provided within the new consumer units, without increasing the overall dimensions of the enclosure. Lewden has also introduced new RCCBs & RCBOs in Type A within its consumer units and circuit protection range. Whilst the new regulations still allow the use of Type AC devices, Lewden has introduced this new range of RCCBs and single module RCBOs in Type A running alongside the conventional Type AC offering, allowing installers flexibility of choice between Type AC and Type A, depending on specific application needs.
