DON’T LEAVE YOUR SECURITY CONCERNS AT THE DOOR
As a business or service provider, security is vastly important, says Bradbury Group. From preventing damage and theft, to maintaining worker and public safety, a security system protects more than just the business

when installing a security door. For instance, will it defend against prolonged attacks? Will it protect machinery from fire or flood risks? Can it provide sufficient airflow to prevent machinery from overheating without weakening the infrastructure? Buildings in remote locations, such as
here is an abundance of new, innovative technology available to help secure a business’ property, but sometimes the simplest factors are overlooked. CCTV may alert of break-ins and may be useful as a source of evidence after the crime has been committed, but how effective is it really at preventing damage or theft? In March, the Mail on Sunday gained access into the building housing the Hibernia Express internet cable which links Britain to the US and Canada. Worth £30bn a year to the economy, this ease of access exposed a mass security threat to the nation. Despite being in an unknown location and CCTV being in operation, this did not prevent the curious reporters from waltzing in, believe it or not, through the front door. “Sometimes your best form of security

is your primary mode of access,” says Tim Strawson, managing director of Bradbury Group. Bradbury Group is a provider of steel
doors and physical security solutions, offering a portfolio of physical security products to an array of utility sectors throughout the UK, including electricity, water and renewable energy. “An off the shelf security door will
simply not protect your business or service,” continues Strawson. “Something as important as your
security deserves due care and attention. From our experience, one size doesn’t fit all and we have been

electricity and gas generators, substations, telecoms networks and other energy-related services are more subject to vandalism and break-ins. Bradbury Group has assisted many
clients that have experienced thefts of expensive equipment and cabling by installing LPS 1175 SR2 certified steel door sets that defend against opportunist attacks. These doors have been tested against the use of power tools and blunt instruments, and the MICO Elite locking systems fitted to these doors prevent vandals or intruders from damaging or forcing the lock. The utilities sector can be a very dangerous industry, with live generators, wires and cables posing a harmful threat to the public, especially within built-up, busy locations. Extra precautions should be made to ensure public safety, as well as restricting machinery interference, and allowing for cable access and the correct ventilation to prevent generators and servers from overheating. These factors, however, can often lead to weak points within the infrastructure, leaving the site more vulnerable to break-ins. Bradbury Group encountered that some
clients were experiencing a real safety concern with rough sleepers breaking into substations for sheltered cover, increasing the risk dramatically of electrocution and death. The solution comprised of providing a security door that offers adequate ventilation, maintenance and cable access, without compromising security. This requires a completely customisable door set to tackle each and every one of these essential requirements. Bespoke doors, complete with cable hatches for
easy access, louvre panels to allow airflow, and a variety of integrated locking mechanisms, provide the fundamental requirements and enhance the security and safety of the public whilst also tending to the needs of the service provider. Uncontrollable factors, such as the natural elements, are other issues to bear in mind. Flood and fire accredited security doors can provide this additional protection. In low lying and high risk flood areas, Bradbury Group strongly advises investing in flood defence doors. Within the electricity or gas sectors, or if located in areas at higher risk of vandalism or arson attacks, the company recommends taking extra precautions with fire proof doors to protect machinery and public safety, providing both a preventative solution and peace of mind for its clients. “Never leave your security concerns at the door. Instead, integrate them within it,” comments Strawson. “Many overlook their doors as a

potential solution, when in fact it can be the greatest one. By identifying the threats to the safety and security of your business and investing in a multi purpose, bespoke door, you are investing in the future of your company. Don’t compromise the security of your business by compromising on your door.”
