FEATURE CABLING & CABLE MANAGEMENT €100m offshore wind farm grid connection project

Prysmian Group has been awarded a contract worth in excess of €100m by EDF Renewables for the development of submarine and land power cable systems to connect the Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) offshore wind farm to the Scottish mainland power grid

will reach land at Thorntonloch beach in East Lothian, Scotland. Prysmian will also provide two 220kV

T

he NnG offshore wind farm, located 15.5km off the Fife coast, will

generate 450MW of green and renewable energy to supply clean and cost competitive power to around 375,000 Scottish homes. “Following the Vineyard Wind project

in the US, the Provence Grand Large floating offshore wind farm project located in South France and the DolWin5 project in the German North Sea, this is the fourth offshore wind farm major contract awarded to the

extruded land cable circuits that will link the landfall area to the substation at Crystal Rig and two 400kV extruded land cables circuits to link the Crystal Rig substation to Scottish Power’s substation. The project will cover a submarine cables route of 38km and underground cables route of around 12km. Submarine cables will be produced at

Prysmian’s centre of excellence in Pikkala (Finland) and installed in 2021, while land cables will be manufactured in Gron (France) and installed in 2020 and 2021. The offshore cable operations will be performed with one of Prysmian Group’s cable laying vessels. Installation and completion of the project is scheduled for 2021.
