Hudson, the UK’s leading independent group of specialist cable containment companies, has appointed Paul Nolan as projects director. Mr Nolan brings extensive cable management expertise to the team having worked in the industry for more than 30 years. He began his career in sales at Vantrunk and has since held senior business development roles at companies, including Mita and Cablofil. At Hudson, he will be responsible for growing the group’s newly launched business, Milton, which specialises in corrosive and hazardous cable management. Milton has recently agreed a partnership with the Wibe Group to distribute Mita’s GRP cable management products and Wibe steel cable ladder systems to the UK. Mr Nolan said: “There is a huge, untapped market for Wibe and Mita’s products in the UK,

so it’s an exciting time to join the business. I’ll be working closely with M&E contractors to help position Milton as their first choice for cable management in hazardous and corrosive environments.

“Our priority is to provide cost-effective, durable solutions for demanding projects in sectors such as infrastructure, marine, power and industrial.” Hudson’s chief executive Simon Hudson-Smith added: “Hudson now offers an unrivalled range of cable management products and solutions, putting the group in a strong market position and creating significant opportunities for further expansion. “Paul’s expertise will be instrumental in helping us to strengthen our customer base and achieve our wider business goals.”

JIB chief executive to host seminar at UK Construction Week

Jay Parmar, chief executive of the JIB and chair of the CSCS Alliance, will join Sean Kearns, chief executive of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) will discuss raising standards and safety in construction at UK Construction Week.

The pair will speak in the CPD Hub at 12.15pm on Wednesday, May 3, at UK Construction Week, which takes place at ExCeL in London. The CSCS Alliance is the collective voice of the 38 card schemes displaying the CSCS logo, representing not just the traditional construction trades but the many specialist occupations across the built environment. This session will introduce the role of the CSCS Alliance and the positive impact it is having on improving standards, safety and competence across the industry as well as helping construction to develop insight in support of the current and future workforce. Andy Reakes, JIB director of growth and development, will also be in attendance on the CSCS Alliance stand (B133) to promote CSCS Smart Check, the app launched in April 2022 and designed to improve site safety and card- checking

procedures on UK construction sites. On the stand you can also find out more about the Alliance’s achievements so far and its priorities for the future.

Keeping safe with the Martindale HPAT400 HandyPAT

Martindale Electric said its compact HPAT400 HandyPAT is the perfect device for anyone who needs to check that electrical appliances are safe to use.

The Electricity at Work

Regulations 1989 require that any electrical equipment that has the potential to cause injury is maintained in a safe condition. Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is the term used to describe the examination, both visually and with test equipment, of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure they are safe to use. With its one-button test selection and backlit display, the HPAT400 is very easy to operate and perfect for those responsible for checking and testing appliances.

Users can perform a 500V insulation test quickly, and the device enables you to switch between different test voltages of 250V and 500V with ease. This is particularly useful when testing appliances with surge-protected circuits, such as sensitive IT equipment that requires a 250V test. Weighing just 700g, this lightweight, battery-powered, handheld PAT tester is also ideal for use in tight and hard-to-reach spaces. The HPAT400 comes with an extension lead adaptor, an earth bond probe with clip, 6xAA alkaline batteries, and a sturdy ‘test & go’ carry case with a separate pocket for accessories to keep the HandyPAT protected and safe. The device complies with BS EN 61010 safety standards.
