Autonomous snow removal tested at Norwegian airports


orwegian airport operator Avinor is now taking the next step towards autonomous snow removal through a new framework agreement regarding the purchase of self- driving runway sweepers. The self-driving technology is developed by the technology company Yeti Move AS, where Semcon is one of the co-owners.

Since the winter of 2018/2019, a number of self-driving runway sweepers are being tested at Oslo Airport. With Avinor's new framework agreement with snowplough manufacturer Øveraasen, which runs for eight years, more

autonomous vehicles will be put into operation during the winter of 2021/2022. Behind the self-driving vehicles is the technology company Yeti Move AS, which delivers the control system that runs the autonomous operations. The majority owners of Yeti Move AS are Øveraasen, Husqvarna and Semcon. Today, efficiency and automation are high on the agenda of airlines and airport operators worldwide and the benefits of autonomous snowploughs at airports are many. In addition to cost efficiency, the new technology entails a higher capacity and greater clearing width, which makes it possible to reduce the number of vehicles and thereby achieve major environmental benefits. The system is also developed with so-called "condition monitoring" which provides a complete overview of the equipment's condition and possible service needs.

Handheld optical time domain reflectometer

Increasing product lifespan is key


educing field failures or increasing the life span of products are the top two reasons why manufacturers chose to protect their products from liquid damage ahead of ‘meeting industry standards’ and ‘improving the user experience’. Those are the key findings of a new study commissioned by liquid protection solutions provider P2i, polling Research & Design professionals at electric device manufacturers. Sustainability featured highly in the responses, with almost half of the survey sample (46%) observing that suppliers of liquid protection solutions can help them to meet their environmental objectives by reducing waste. And nearly all (94%) of respondents felt it was either very important or somewhat important to them that suppliers of liquid protection solutions helped them achieve their organisation’s environmental goals. The survey also discovered that regulatory pressures are proving to be the main driver for manufacturers to become more sustainable, as noted by more than half of the respondents (53%), with 43% believing consumer pressures are a primary cause. Internal pressures at manufacturers were noted by more than a third 39% of respondents,

18th edition compliant cable clips from Unicrimp

The 18th Edition wiring regulations stipulate that cable support systems must be constructed with materials that will withstand premature collapse caused by direct exposure to heat. There are no applications excluded – trunking, conduit and cabling fixed to surfaces of the building or attached to cable support systems must all have fire-resistant supports in place. These new additions provide installers with an expanded choice of fixing solutions, suitable across a range of applications and environments – helping them to satisfy the latest wiring regulations. The new fire-rated T&E Cable Clips are manufactured from zinc plated carbon steel and are available in two sizes – 1-2.5mm and 4-6mm – and in a choice of uncoated or with a grey PPA LSF coating. The LSF coating provides long term protection for metal clips, as well as added protection for the cable during and after installation.
