Carol Fitzpatrick: Tezlom’s Woman Franchisee of the Year 2022

T

he last 12 months has seen Carol’s business (Tezlom Central

Scotland) evolve – with her husband joining full time. Carol says: “We’ve overcome some challenges as we navigate being a wife-and- husband team – but we’re alread reaping te enefits We don’t want to be the biggest, we want to be the best. We’re achieving this by being meticulous in our recruitment – selecting people we’d be happy to have caring for our own family. I handpick them personally, being sure to understand their values and motivations as well as personal circumstances and experience. Unlike most other agencies, we insist on a minimum of six months’ UK care experience. That’s only one piece of the puzzle – the magic ingredient is how we care for our staff. Providing training, mentoring, a sense of community and a genuine family feel is how we buck the trend of high staff turnover. I’m so proud that many of our staff have been with us for as long as four ears “I have three amazing

boys – Michael, 15, Sean, 13 and Daniel, 8. Juggling an ever-growing business with a busy family life is no joke. But we make it work. More than anything, I strive to be an example to them of all that you can achieve with hard work, passion and the support of a great team around you.

I'm also prioritising my mental health and wellbeing, so that I can be the best person – as well as the best mum and business owner – possible. “Results that speak for

themselves… It’s one thing to set bold targets, it’s another to achieve them. We doubled the size of our business in year two and tripled it in year three. Thanks to our robust systems and sheer passion for what we do, throughout Covid we sustained business levels and then grew turnover by a further 30%. For year 2022/23, we’re on track to have grown by another 40%. “I’m incredibly proud that

the business has grown, year on year, and even prouder that we've done so without compromising our values. Ultimately, I’m driven to make a difference – to my customers, my care staff, my team and my family. I’ve been reminded every day why I do what I do, and why it’s a privilege to be in my position. What we do changes lives. If the last 12 months are anything to go by, the next 12 are going to be even more remarale 
