SPEAR’S PARTNER
OVER THE PAST FIVE or 10 years, has any global city increased in stature and desirability as much as Miami? A business-friendly environment
and low personal taxes have been instrumental in making the southern Florida city an attractive hub for companies and their executives. Just ask billionaire Ken Griffin, who announced in 2022 that he would relocate the headquarters of his hedge fund, Citadel, to Miami’s financial district to take advantage of an influx of finance businesses and wealthy individuals. But he is just one example of a great many entrepreneurs who have found a more favourable commercial climate than exists in New York or California right now. Some estimates suggest that as many as 1,000 people are leaving each of these coastal states every day – and many of them are headed to Miami. It’s not only business and financial
matters that have made the city popular. Miami has become a cultural hub, rising to prominence in the art world through Art Basel Miami Beach and the wider Miami Art Week programme. There is a thriving food scene, entertainment from the NFL, the NBA and Formula One, and some of the very best schools in the country. The net result has been significant
demand for real estate. Last year UBS noted that Miami property prices had risen by almost 50 per cent in real terms since the end of 2019. The most desirable area within
all of Miami may be the region dubbed ‘Billionaire’s Triangle’, which comprises Indian Creek,
Bal Harbour and Surfside. Here, building restrictions mean that high-rise apartment blocks are simply not permitted, which naturally limits the supply of properties in these already sought-aſter neighbourhoods.
ARCHITECTURAL TRIUMPH Some new building is allowed, and one hotly anticipated development stands out among others: The Delmore. The building, which is scheduled for completion in 2029, has been designed by the internationally acclaimed Zaha Hadid Architects – founded by the late Pritzker Prize-winner Zaha Hadid – and is already under construction. This 12-storey architectural
triumph will offer sweeping views of
