4Q25: IR’s Front-Page Fame T

Alexandra Deignan NIRI Chair

Head of Treasury and Investor Relations, Lazard, Inc.

his September the topic of investor relations made front-page headlines as the Trump administration and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Paul Atkins announced an initiative to “make IPOs great again,” which included a proposal to

introduce semi-annual reporting requirements for public companies. Te initiative is intended to make public company life more attractive by eliminating

burdensome reporting requirements that do not provide meaningful investor insights and reduce unnecessary regulatory and legal complexities. Not surprisingly, this topic has sparked serious debate on accountability, transparency and consistency. To gather the perspectives of the IR community as we consider advising the SEC on this

potential rulemaking, we surveyed NIRI members on this topic in September and October. Just over two-thirds of respondents believe quarterly reporting to be best, with just under one-third voting for semi-annual reporting; results not dramatically different from our last related survey in 2016. Respondents on both sides of this aisle have valid arguments for and against, and the

best outcome may be light-touch regulation that allows for choice that accommodates the needs of companies and their investors. Whether you are in the “less is more” camp or the “more is meaningful” camp, it is

healthy for our profession to take a fresh look at what has been and what should be. While you contemplate the possibilities of an IR evolution, enjoy a few more perspec-

tives on what’s happening at NIRI in this issue of IR Update: • NIRI Represents the IR Profession in Washington, D.C. – When NIRI members come to the nation’s capital to express their views on critical issues affecting financial regulations, it makes a difference.
