leading scientists in the field was invaluable and not only enhanced the attendees' technical knowledge, but also sparked new ideas for future research and innovation.
Beyond the academic content, the summer school fostered a vibrant environment for networking and collaboration.
Participants engaged in discussions with peers from diverse backgrounds, opening the door to international cooperation and potential joint projects. The summer school covered the following key topics:
TRENDS AND NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN LASER TECHNOLOGY
ALI BAGHBANI BARENJI, UNIVERSITY OF WARWICK
In August, members of the ECG from the University of Warwick (Ali Baghbani Barenji, Reshad Bakhtari and Qamar Hayat) attended and presented their work at the 14th International Summer School – Trends and New Developments in Laser Technology.
Hosted at the renowned Fraunhofer Institute in Dresden, Germany, known
for its cutting-edge applied research, the programme emphasised the real- world relevance of the technologies discussed.
This event aims to bring together undergraduate and PhD students in an intensive study programme on fundamental and applied aspects of laser technology.
Through a series of expert lectures, lab visits, and in-depth discussions, participants gained valuable insights into a wide range of topics, including ultrafast lasers, additive manufacturing, and laser- based materials processing. The opportunity to learn directly from
• Surface hardening technologies • High-speed 2D laser cutting • Laser welding • Additive manufacturing processes
• Applications of ultra-short pulsed lasers
• Laser process simulation • Laser micro/nano structuring • Laser interference patterning
