EXIT Festival once again proved why it’s a pinnacle of the electronic music scene. Set against the stun- ning backdrop of Petrovaradin Fortress, EXIT Festival exemplified the perfect blend of rich cultural herita- ge and cutting-edge music. The fortress, a massive 18th-century structure overlooking the Danube River, transformed into a dynamic space where music lovers from around the globe gathered.
This year the festival attracted more than 210.000 attendees from over 80 countries, including Germany, Austria, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Spain, The Ne- therlands, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and many more. The festival highlighted not just its stunning se- tting but also its commitment to providing a diverse and immersive experience for attendees. The Dance Arena and NSNS stages were the festival’s beating heart, pulsating with energy and unforgettable per- formances.
DANCE ARENA: A MONUMENT TO MU- SIC
The Dance Arena at EXIT Festival is renowned for its electric atmosphere, and 2024 was no exception. The colossal scale of the Dance Arena, with its towering LED screens, intricate light shows, and booming sound system, made it a highlight of the festival. The open- air setting allowed festival-goers to dance under the stars, creating a surreal connection between music and its environment.
“Praised by many as the best dance floor in the world, the glorious and almighty Dance Arena has once again proven itself to be the electronic music empire. We really took a step forward with this year’s lineup, and the feedback from our performers and the audience has been overwhelmingly amazing,” said Miroslav Mi- letic, the head booker of the Dance Arena. “Next year for our 25th anniversary, we are once again stepping up our game and preparing a spectacle like no other with great acts, amazing energy, and the unique feeling only the Dance Arena can give you!”
This year, the Dance Arena hosted many stellar perfor- mances that solidified its status as one of the world’s top festival stages. Headliners like Carl Cox, a living legend in the techno world, delivered an epic 3-hour hybrid set. Cox brought his unparalleled energy and decades of experience to EXIT, leading the crowd on a journey through the rich landscape of techno. His abi- lity to read and energize the audience made his set one of the most memorable of the festival, reinforcing his status as a pioneer and beloved figure in the electronic music scene.
The Ukrainian duo Artbat, composed of Artur and Ba- tish, delivered a set that showcased their signature melodic techno sound. Known for their atmospheric tracks and deep, emotive beats, Artbat’s performan- ce was a musical journey that captivated the audien- ce from start to finish. Their ability to blend emotive, haunting melodies with the energetic pulse of tech- no made their set a highlight, appealing to both the hearts and feet of the festival-goers.
Patrick Mason’s performance was a standout moment at the Dance Arena. Known for his bold fashion sense and dynamic stage presence, Mason brought a unique techno set to the stage. His set was not just about the music; it was a full-on performance that engaged the crowd on multiple levels. Mason’s charismatic interac- tion with the audience, combined with his high-energy mixing and selection of tracks, created a pulsating at- mosphere.
His ability to seamlessly blend genres and maintain a high level of intensity throughout his set made it an exhilarating experience for all in attendance.
Barry Can’t Swim’s set was a refreshing break from the harder beats, bringing a blend of house, jazz, and elec- tronic music that highlighted his unique musical style. His track “Sunsleeper” was a standout, with its warm, soulful melodies and intricate rhythms, and his perfor- mance at EXIT Festival was a testament to his skill as a producer and performer. The way he wove together different musical influences to create a cohesive and engaging set showcased his versatility and artistic vi- sion.
Closing the Dance Arena, Black Coffee brought his distinctive Afro-house sound, characterized by soul- ful melodies and smooth, hypnotic beats. His music is known for its emotional depth and ability to connect with listeners on a profound level, and his performance at EXIT Festival was no exception, blending deep hou- se with African rhythms and soulful vocals. The crowd was enveloped in a warm soundscape that provided a perfect end to a night of diverse and dynamic music. His mastery of the decks made his set a memorable conclusion to EXIT Festival 2024.
The No Sleep stage, true to its name, kept the festi- val-goers dancing all night long with its commitment to the underground electronic scene. Set in a more in- timate, dimly lit area of the fortress, this stage was a haven for those seeking innovative and boundary-pus- hing music. The NSNS stage’s intimate setting provided a stark contrast to the grandeur of the Dance Arena, allowing for a closer connection between the artists and the audience. The stage design was minimalistic yet effective, with moody lighting and immersive vi- suals that perfectly complemented the underground vibe. It was the ultimate destination for underground electronic music lovers.
Kobosil brought an intense hard techno set to the NSNS stage, characterized by its dark, industrial tones and relentless energy. Known for his uncompromising approach to hard techno, Kobosil’s performance was a deep dive into the genre’s more intense and raw ele- ments. His powerful beats and dark, industrial sounds- capes created an immersive experience, keeping the audience entranced and moving from start to finish.
Francis Mercier infused the NSNS stage with a vibrant blend of deep house and Afro beats, creating an eth- nically rich and uplifting atmosphere. Known for his eclectic style and ability to blend different musical in- fluences, Mercier’s set was a journey through diverse soundscapes, from soulful melodies to rhythm-driven tracks. His ability to create a seamless mix that felt both fresh and familiar made his performance a joyous experience, resonating with a broad spectrum of festi- val-goers. Mercier’s set highlighted his skill in crafting a musical narrative that was both engaging and emo- tionally resonant.
DJEFF and Fiona Kraft’s back-to-back performance was a celebration of global sounds, mixing house, te- chno, and Afro beats into a cohesive and exhilarating set. Fiona Kraft and DJEFF brought a unique syner- gy to the stage, blending their individual styles into a seamless performance that highlighted their deep understanding of the music. Their set was characteri- zed by its infectious energy and the way they skillfully navigated between different genres, creating a dan- cefloor experience that was both diverse and exhilara- ting. The duo’s ability to keep the crowd engaged and moving was a testament to their skill as DJs and their deep passion for music.
