Floyd Mayweather has been stripped of his WBO welterweight belt

an example. More need to follow suit now. They need tostop letting fighters dictate. “There’s young prospects out

there being denied the opportu nity to fight for these titles be cause somebody else is hanging

on to them.” As the interim title holder,

following his triumph over Jessie Vargas, Timothy Bradley has been elevated to full belt-holder. Mayweather now has 14 days

to appeal the verdict. Blackledge forced to withdraw from Liverpool show!

Injury and illness has forced Elite Boxing's Luke Blackledge to with draw from his scheduled contest at Liverpool Olympia on July25th.

The 24-year-old, recently

crowned Commonwealth cham pion at i68lb, is on the road to re covery after catching impetigo in sparring and experiencing dis comfort in his hands and elbow. But the Clitheroe fighter’s

comeback trail has been bettered by the treatment administered by Cryo Elements in Blackburn. “I was gutted because it feels

like I've not fought for so long,” hq said. “It's been a few months now

butitfeelsalot longer. It'sjust gen eral wear and tear of the body but the injuries were quite bad. “It's my hand and elbow so I’ve

had lots ofphysio and treatment to try and heal them. He added: “Cryo Therapy

speeds up the healing process. I've been having that treatment which has been helping. “It’s for any kind of injury and

it works. It’sdefinitely something I would recommend for athletes or anybody with a bad injury. “It will help repair it. I’m doing

it for my elbow and my hand.” Blackledge, whois expected to defend his latest acquisition on a

televisedshowin September, has recently been offered match-ups against Patrick Nielsen for the WBA title as well as Australian 3 ZacDunnforthelBOworldstrap, n though a break down in negotia tions thwarted the latter. .

* Britain’s number six super-

middleweight said: “I'll fight any.-.. one in the top 10 in the Common- * wealthrankings.I’mreadytostep up again,

“I’d be so fortunate to take any

world title shot. It's a big opportu nity. But the negotiations broke down. I’ve been offered loads of fights and I'm getting a lot more' attention now.”
