Much-anticipated plansto breathe new life into Clithe- roe's under used market site are finally moving forward.

The proposed redevelopment of the historic market took a step closer this week after the shortlist o f six potential developerswasreducedtotwo. Research into the viability

of a revamp of the goo-year- old site was presented to Rib- ble Valley Borough Council last year. The selection of a develop

ment partner in line with.the council’s procurement proce dures started and a shortlist of six potential developers was drawn up. Now, the sh o r t l is t has

been reduced to two, who are currently finalising their submissions. Mr Colin Hirst, Ribble Valley Borough Council’s head

of regeneration and housing, said: “The final submissions will be evaluated with a view to making a recommendation to th e c o u n c i l ’s p o l ic y and finance committee in September. “We will then select a part

ner, who will work up a de tailed scheme and submit a planning application for a re tail-led mixed-use market de velopment and car park. “T h is is a fa n t a s t i c

opportunity to bring modern retail and leisure facilities to Clith eroe town centre, and the proposed scheme generated strong interest from developers across the country. We expect a planning application will be submitted and approved by next March, with work s tar tin g in the summer. “We w i l l b e h o ld in g

d is cu s s ion s w ith market ten an ts and b u s in e s s e s who may be affected by the proposed redevelopment over the coming months.”
