First-time marathon runner LauraSingletonand her army of well-wishers have raised morethan£3,000forachil- dren’s charity.

The 31-year-old mum-of-four from Billington, who first took up running to lose weight and get fit, was offered a substitute place in the London Marathon and had just over two months to prepare: She crossed the finishing

line after four hours 43 min utes to receive her finisher’s medal. Laura was running in aid

of Tofs, a charity for children who are unable to swallow be cause of the rare conditions tracheo-oesophageal fistula (TOF) and oesophageal atresia (OA). “We set up a fundraising

pageandthetargetwasfii^oo, but we’re up to £3,160 at the last count and the money’s

still coming in,” said Laura. “It’s been overwhelming. I’ve had hundreds of messag

es of support on Facebook and Twitter.” Laura started her fitness

regime more than two years ago in order to lose four stones in weight and shrink down from to a size 20 to a trim size eight. She started supporting

the Tofs charity because her friend Kay Leech, from Mellor, has a daughter, Harriet, who suffers from the condition. Earlier this year, Laura

organised an 8o-hour fan cy dress spinning marathon with friends at Oakhill Acad emy, Whalley, raising more than £800. She said: “I’ve done a cou

ple of 10K runs but London was my first marathon. “I was so pleased to finish

and I’m really happy with my time.” • Donations can still be
