How to ensure the worm turns ■


B B SH ER E are a number of ■ H different worms and parasites that can affect your dog.

medication, so ask your vet whether you are using an appropriate wormer. Over two articles we will discuss the worms relevant to dogs in the UK.


Roundworms (Toxocara canis)


are long (up to eight inches). These white spaghetti-like worms are often seen in dog pooh. They are primarily a problem in puppies, causing pot bellies, vomiting, diarrhoea and weight loss. Puppies catch the worm from their mother, so it is important to worm them every two to three weeks until they are three months old and then monthly till they are six months.
