MP welcomes fall in unemployment
Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans has welcomed a fall in unem-
' ployment. ; . 5 .According to the Office
of National Statistics, the number of people out ofwork in the UK fell by 77,000 to a five-year low of 2.24m. in the
three months to February. ■ ■ The unemployment rate
now stands at 6.9% of the adult working population, average, earnings in the three months ,to February grew 1.7%, com
pared with a year earlier and inflation was recorded to
have fallen to 1.6% in March.1 :iyfr Evans said: “What
we are seeing is-a week on week. month on month im-: provement in the economy. There are more people in' employment and wages have overtaken inflation. That is
, tremendous news, but there is still more to be done. Some people will have a job that does not have as many hours,-. for some, the wage may be lower. However, breaking the
’cycle of unemployment is hugely important.
