Early morning pizza craving was drink-driver’s downfall, court told
A 21-year-old motorist who drove onto a Clitheroe petrol station at 6-30 am was later found to be nearly three times the legal drink drive limit. . Blackburn magistrates
heard that a member of staff at the Primrose petrol station a le r ted police after .seeing W i l l iam Parry stag ger ing around the shop, colliding with displays. He then followed Parry to
his car and challenged him about his fitness to drive af
ter seeing him put the keys in the ignition. . Parry, of Hawthorne Place,
Clitheroe, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He was ordered to do 100 hours’ unpaid work, pay £145 towards costs and banned from driving for 24 months. Mrs Philippa White (pros
ecuting) said that when Parry was challenged he said: “Fair enough, I’ll walk” and locked his car. “At that point a police of
ficer arrived,” said Mrs White. . In mitigation, Mr Dami
an Pickup said his client had been out drinking the pre vious night and had walked home.
^ ■ “He decided to drive to
the garage to get some pizza because he was hungry,” said Mr Pickup. “He now realises he should
have walked, got a taxi or cooked at home. He should have done anything rather than drive.”
