Ex-Whalley man dies in


Former Whalley resident Frederick Robert Blakey, who was known as Bob to his many friends, has died aged 84 at Pacific Palisades, California.


Bob had recently moved there j iri declining health, with his wife, Janet, to be closer to their daughter, Gillian, and her family. The couple had been


frequent visitors to the West CoastoftheUSAformorethan 20 years. Bob was born in Burnley


and throughout his working life had been a successful busi­ nessman. ' Through the family busi-.

a passion for sport and educa­ tion. He was chairman of the Westholme Sports Associa­ tion in Blackburn and was a


keen tennis and badminton player. In later years he was an equally avid bridge player on the club circuit. He is survived by his wife


of 55 years, their children Ste­ ven, Gillian and Nicholas plus nine grandchildren. The funeral will be held in .
