J__CLITHEROEADVERHSER&TIMES www.clitheroeadvertiser.co.uk Thursday, July17, Thursday, July 17.2014 www.clitheroeadvertiser.co.uk CUTHEROEADVERTISER&TIMES I 2014 is a big year for Fred Coupe Nissan

based in Walton-le-Dale. This year the 4th generation famiiy business are celebrating their 40th anniversary as a Nissan main dealer and

are launching 3 new models to their exciting crossover range.

January this year, was their most important new model launch - the next generation Nissan Qashqai - the fastest selling car in the history of Nissan in Europe. This is the car that created a whole new category when it was first launched in 2007 and sales have exceeded far beyond expectations with , some models now having an 8 month lead time. Qashqai is currently, the 6th best selling car in the.U.K and has also enjoyed great success overseas being solely manufactured in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear and exported to countries all over the world. Fred Coupes have seen many long established customers thoroughly enjoy owning and driving the Qashqai since its initial launch in 2007, but

also, many new customers to Fred Coupe and Nissan too.

May this year, saw radical changes to Nissans original B segment crossover, the Juke.--, This unique car with its unmistakable presence has had significant changes and enhancements made to its design and features whilst maintaining the Jukes DNA. impressive 51.8 M.P.G combined. Also, there has been an impressive 40 % increase in boot capacity with, changes to the shape-being made to give the Juke an overall class-leading capacity Of 354 litres. With two new colours, a 4 model line-up, new technologies and new personalization kits Fred Coupe have already seen huge demand for this british-built. car

like its big brother the Qashqai, solely built in Sunderland. ,

This month sees Fred Coupes long awaited launch’of the New Nissan X-Trail. Being a 4x4 specialist for over 30 years , Fred Coupes has many long standing 4x4 customers eager to see and drive; this new. model X-Trail. The new X-Trail combines Nissans 4x4 heritage with market leading crossover design. It will be available with 2wd or all-mode 4x4-1, 5 or 7 seats and a spacious, versatile interior. There will be 4 exciting grades featuring new technologies and all new X-Trail models will come equipped with Nissan’s powerful yet frugal 1.6 dCi 131 ps engine which, delivers an abundance of torque (320rim) and excellent refinement at all speeds. The all new X-Trail a|so comes with the option of 7 seats at.a cost of £700 and an efficient petrol engine is due for release in 2015.

VAUXHALL’S innovative Meri-

va MPV has got itself a new Euro-6 diesel engine to cart around its legions of fans.

And as well as the power un der the bonnet, it’s got a stylish update to its looks. Launched in 2010, the sec

ond-generation Meriva turned the compact MPV class on its head, with its clever Flex- Doors system - rear-hinged rear doors which allow a 20 per cent larger opening for passengers - and FlexSpace system,whichallowsrearpas- sengers a variety of different seating combinations. Some dub them suicide

doors but to my mind anyone of that particular persuasion

could successfully deploy any car door to achieve the desired effect.

But whatever you choose

to call them, there’s no doubt the rear hinged doors on Meriva make it a real cinch to safely load the kids up in the

back most of the time. Not to mention it ’s now easier for grumbling OAPs to avail

themselves of a ride in the back with much more ease - and dignity - than has been the casein the past. But the familyjury’s still

out on those doors, because collisions are inevitable - thankfully only between passengers. They make it awkward to vacate the car in a tight car park, where con ventional doors would allow front and rear passengers to get out at the same time.

Those in the back have ad-

equate space too, and when you need it the .much-lauded FlexSpace system is even eas ier to use, allowing the rear seats to be quickly folded. So, once you’ve got every

one loaded up and strapped in, what do you notice from the driver’s seat - part from good all round visibility? The light, airy interior

benefits from having a full length sunroof, as well as Vauxhall’s FlexRail set up in the centre console area, which gives you the option of a number of storage and comfort solutions that fix to the dual rail base. There’s no handbrake to get in the way - that’s an electronic switch, mounted higher up and out of the way. First seen in the Zafira

Tourer, Vauxhall’s all-new 1.6 CDTi diesel engine is now

available in the Meriva. The Euro-6 compliant engine

• -produces 136PS and 32oNm of torque at 2,ooorpm, yet achieves a decent 64.2mpg combined and n6g/km of C02 emissions. This equates to a 10 per cent improvement in economy/emissions over the 1.7 CDTi, which the new unit replaces, and it is, it’s fair to say, no slouch. In fact it’s a lusty perform

er, and a thrifty one too going by the figures, and while it has that initial diesel harsh ness like Dierdre Barlow af

ter her first fag of the day, it soon settles down into a rela tively peaceful performer in everyday mode. Its UK tuned handling

deals well with the potholed highways we use each and every day. There’s a bit of body roll if you push into a corner but the wheels stay stuck to the tarmac and that, at the end of the day, is what matters.

Things to watch out for?

If you’re forced to put your lights on because of bad weather you can pretty well

forget about using the sat nav because you won’t be able to see it clearly enough. Curi ously it goes very dull where others in ‘night’ mode are still visible in daylight. But it’s biggest plus point is

the excellent amount of inte rior space, and the lighty and

airyfeelasthisonehada large panoramic glass sunroof. Like all Vauxhalls, Meriva

comes with Lifetime War ranty, which offers first own ers peace of mind for as long as they own the car, up to 100,000 miles.
