A grateful Clitheroe boy has been busy making loom bandstosellathisschoolasa thankyou to a charity that has helped him and his family. In October 2007, Nathan

iel Taylor was involved in an accidentandunderwentasix- hour operation at the former Pendlebury Children’s Hos pital, Manchester, to repair a bleed to his brain and serious injuries to his neck. The 11-year-old, who at

tends St James Primary School, appeared to make an excellent recovery and at the time his mother, Laura, said it was a “miracle” hersonwas alive. However, 12 months af

ter the accident, the family, who live in Clitheroe, noticed Nathaniel was falling behind in his school studies, his short-term memory was af fected and he began experi encing frequent episodes of confusion and forgetfulness. He was referred to Royal

Blackburn Hospital and un derwent a CT scan which revealed frontal temporal lobe damage and scarring on Nathaniel’s brain. At the tender age of seven, he was

then admitted to Royal Pres ton Hospital for a further two weeks where he had endless assessments and tests. After being assessed by a

paediatric neurologist and child psychologist, Nathaniel and his family were referred to the Child Brain Injury Trust. Laura said: “This was a

blessing to us as parents and as a family. Representatives from the organisation helped us enormously.” Over the years Nathaniel

has suffered painful head aches, dizziness, swelling around his eyes and seizures, as well as a number of opera tions on his brain - the most recent being on May 23rd where he underwent a three- hour operation to insert a valve into his brain with a disc on his skull. Despite his treatment,

brave Nathaniel is wanting to pay back the organisation that has helped him. He and his family and friends have made loom

bands to raise money for the Child Brain Injury Trust. A non-uniform day will beheld today, July 17th, at St James Primary School and every child who pays £1 will be giv- enaloombandandany lefto ver will be sold for 2op each ortwofor3op. Laura added: “I can’t

thank enough the people who have already donated and as a family we are eternally grate ful for the ongoing support to help raise money for the Child Brain Injury Trust.”
