MP supports dairy farmers

Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans has spoken in Parliament in support of dairy farmers. Speaking in a Westmin

ster debate on the problems of milk price cuts by super markets, Mr Evans said: , “While most consumers would welcome being able to buy milk so cheaply, they sim ply do not want to do that on the back of the farmers who

produce the milk. They would far prefer to see the super-" markets pay a decent price for the milk, and to pay a de

scent'price for it themselves,-- than to get cheap milk on the ■ backs of farmers. “Dairy farming is a cru-.

cial industry in this country andneedstobeproperlysup- ported. “Thedairyindustiyispar-

ticularly important for rural ■

■ constituencies like the Ribble' Valley as it provides employe ment, to local people and is; important to the local econ-; omy.” Mr Evans said the debate

■ showed support exists for the dairy industry, but he would

• welcome any Government action that would help to ease the burden on farmers.1
