Commenting on the scheme, Catriona Stewart. Head of the Food Hygiene Ratings Team at the FSA. said; “About one million people suffer from food poisoning every 3'ear and our aim in introducing the scheme is to reduce this statistic "We are really pleased with the number of local authorities that are adopting the scheme as it means that consumers will be

Northern Ireland now publish ratings The aim of the FHRS is to help people choose where to eat out or shop for food by giving them information about the hygiene standards in restaurants, pubs, cafes, takeaway, hotels and other


places they might eat. as well as m supermarkets and other food shops.


In areas where the .scheme is running, each food business is given a food hygiene rating on a scale from 0 to 5 when it is inspected by a local authority food .safety officer. The top rating IS 5 - which means the hygiene standards are very good The bot­ tom IS 0 which this means urgent improvement is required

The FHRS is new. This means not all food businesses with hav
