PUBLIC support ensured that Saturday’s Clitheroe Torchlight Procession was no damp squib.
. Despite almost continuous downpours, hundreds turned out to watch the spectacle and lined the procession route. Flag waving spectators cheered on Olympic medal win
ners Samantha Murray and Jon Schofield, who led a victory parade ahead of the procession in a “Pope-mobile”, flanked by a guard of honour comprising 10 official Olympic torch-
bearers. • They were followed by more than 60 floats which travelled
through Clitheroe. These included a float by Chatburn’s Manor House nursing and residential home for the elderly (pictured right) and another by Chatbum Primary School. Other eyecatching floats included a witch-themed one by staff at Clitheroe Health Centre, a fitness-themed float by CrossFit Clitheroe, one with a thespian theme by Clitheroe Operatic and Dramatic Society, a Glitheroe Lady Farmers float with the message “farming delivers”, one by Clitheroe young'f airners’ Club with igloos and a snow machine, plus others jy ^Jljtheroe Rugby, Club and Low Moor Club to namejustafew.
