Lynda Brislin, chief exec of the North West Air Ambulance charity
What qualifications do you need? I come from a generation where university was never an option, but I have always held roles which involved business management, figures, banking and credit
control - all of which serve me well in mv position. Before joining the North West Air
Ambulance, I managed a family business for over 2 0 years and this gave me the skills and expertise I needed to secure
the role of chief executive within the charity.
the air ambulance service was launched - looking back, it was great riming, and the rest, as they say, is history.
We sold our ferriily business the year
Any other requirements for example health and fitness or age?
Every day is different in my role. It involves a lot of travelling around
meeting our crew, volunteers, fundraisers and staff at m e various emergency
services we work in partnership with. It always keeps me busy and on my
toes - so I would say good health is a must!
What sort of personal skills make someone best suited to this career? To work in a charity you must be a
•people person’ - and a very good listener.
•You must po ssess g re a t '
cornmunication skills and have the patience to give each and every person
you deal with the time they wish to spend with you. •
What sort of career prospects and structure Is there? The charity has a dedicated senior team who all support me in my role and help the charity pursue its vision of delivering the highest standard of healthcare to
patients in the region who need our services.
For me, there is no greater career, prospect than seeing this being achieved.
What kind of job satisfaction can you expect from a career? Working with the North West Air
Ambulance, in particular, means no end to job satisfaction; Our charity has the ability to see the
outcome of the work we do on such a grand scale — which is fentastic. To actually meet people who would not
have survived their injuries without the North VVest Air Ambulance is the most rewarding part of my role, and working with such a dedicated,
life-saving.team has to come a close second.
In 50 words sell your profession. If you want to work in an environment which sees your organisation help save lives on a daily basis, working for the North West Air Ambulance may be for
you. Clitheroe Advertiser &Tlmes,Thursday, May Golf rounds •
