.Pendle witch trials has-been premiered in the Ribble Valley. . Starring Ciitheroe historian and ghost hunter Simon Entwistle,
Tria[ of the Witch was produced to coincide with this year's 400th anniversary of the 1612 Lancashire Witch Trials at Lancaster Castle, the countries most infamous witch hunt.
.■ Raising the Roof Productions in association with Samlesbuty Hall produced the short 26-minute film covering the sinister happenings surrounding the lesser known Samlesbury Witches and their subsequent trial.
Tried alongside the defendants from Pendle were three women from Samlesbury. Like the

It has been suggested that this was a show-trial, meant as a dire
warning to the people of Lancashire of the dangers of Catholicism The story is well documented through Thomas Potts' book The
Wonderful Discovery of Witches in the CounUe of Lancaster which is the account of the Lancashire witch trials.
Mr Potts was the clerk to the Lancaster Assizes and was ordered
by the trial judges. Sir James Altham and Sir Edward Bromley to write an account of the proceedings, making them some of the most famous and best recorded witch trials of the 17th century Except for one trial held in York they took place at Uncaster ^
Assizes. Of the twenty men and women accused - amongst them the Pehdie witches and the Samlesbury witches - eleven were found guilty and subsequently hanged; one was sentenced to stand in the pillory, and thfe rest were acquitted. Simon was invited by the film company to play the role of the
1612 Thomas Potts and the 2012 tour guide Thomas Potts "There is a huge connection with the Pendle witches and the Samlesbuty hall witches - they were all tried in August 1612 together," Simon explained. "The Samlesbuty hall witches escaped the executioner's noose by their cunning and the intelligence of one of them - Jane Southworth." He added: "i had'quite a few lines to learn
and I have to say it was a joy to work with professional actors. ;

think of my acting though." Filmed in and around the spectacular Pendle countryside and on location at the historical Samlesbury Hall, the locations have
