What Is Shared Lives? Shared Lives is caring for someone in

your family home, whilst they cannot live with their own family. It is family-based care provided by individuals and femilies which enables adults to share in family and communily life, as well as helping

Who can be a Shared Lives carer and what skills do I need? Anyone. Our Shared Lives carers are from many different backgrounds. What really matters are your personal qualities — Shared Lives carers must


be patient, positive, flexible and have a person-centred approach. You need to be able to offer time, encouragement and opportunities to the person that you support Becoming a Shared Lives carer requires a huge amount of commitment and enthusiasm. Shared Lives carers need to offer support and encouragement in order for people to live as actively and' independently as possible.


Will I get paid?


Being a Shared Lives carer is not a job as such but more like a career. You receive an allowance on a monthly basis for caring for the people you support and the amount is agreed beforehand. It'varies according to how much care is required and the individual’s level of need. The
