Saddened at lack of bandstand use

I WORK within the Castle grounds, and so walk regularly past the bandstand and

I am always very saddened to see it hardly ever being used. . Recently I heard that there will seem- mgly be no I^rass band concerts this sum mer, and so apart from the two “Proms

Concerts” in August it will sit empty for the whole year. Whilst I uiiderstand that local resi

dents may object to loud rock concerts being showcased on a regular basis, it can be used for outdoor theatre events, with m ^ y plays lending themselves to being performed al firesco. The council, or who ever controls the performing rights to the bandstand, should look at the situation and realise that we have a special venue Md we can use it to bring people into Clit heroe on a more regular basis. This is something that has been raised

to me by visitors to the Atrium Cafe at the castle, many being surprised that the bandstand stands so completely forlorn.

the electoral cycle), UKIP took 98,000 votes in England. This year we took over 220,000; our vote has more than doubled since 2008. We fielded 691 candidates this year, up from 450 in 2008 and the average UKIP candidate had a percentage vote share of 13.8% - the highest ever. The Lib-Dems stayed static at 16%. UKIP won nine seats in England and Wales and 136 candidates finished in second place. We continue to build our footprint in lo

over the FaDdands IT’S 2012 and another anniversary of re membering the Falklands War, or, as I prefer to call them by their original name, the Malvinas.

In the archives of The Clitheroe Adver

tiser you could see that more than half-a- centuiy ago, as pupil in a local school I was writing to the Advertiser vitriolic letters of .abuse againt the lying hypocrisy of Com munist propaganda and the brutal denial of human rights in the deprivations of the Gulags”. But the most blatant fabrication

of facts comes from a pretentious David Buick on a morning BBC news bulletin saying: “The Falkland Islands have been ours since Noah’s time.” I wouldn’t engage in this correspond

ence, but it was echoed by a natural syco phant in your newspaper. • “We must stand by the Falklands

again,” - Sajjad Karim, MEP for North West England. So, according to Mr Buick, Noah’s time was 1833 when British frig ates landed with “settlers”. Today we would call them squatters. It arrived at the Malvinas, deposited its human cargo, re named the islands the Falklands and car- . ned the indigenous people, who had been there for centuries, to the mainland. So we have to defend these islands. They are the only vestige left of our Imperial past. ROBIN PARKER, St Chad’s Avenue, Chatbum
