IT was bidding from customers overseas that drove prices forward in Siiverwoods' special antiques auction' on April 26th, with items being sent out after the saie as far afield as Russia, China, America and Italy. Bidding was particuiarly strong for three Chinese .
antiques, inciuding a late 19th Century blue and white cylindrical vase decorated with figures and servants in a
woodiand garden, which achieved £1,600 for a Whailey vendor., A smaller piece of blue and white pottery, a Chinese

fruit bowl decorated with birds and, butterfiies and again from the late 19th Century, made £480 - more than four times its estimate. An oriental ivory tusk vase later in the sale went under
the hammer for £900. All available telephone lines were booked for bidding
on several rare items of Russian silver and enarfielware. auction prices
with the star of the collection being a brightly decorated "kovsh", or drinking vessel, possibly by Nikolai Strulyev. It sold for £1,400 and a snuff box attributed to Feodor
Lorie achieved £1,300. A small teaspoon featuring a view of Moscow sold for
£130 to a buyer from Belarus. A collection of fine malt whiskies also proved popular
with the market, as did some smaller quirkier items - a George III mahogany truncheon featuring the Royal coat of arms went for £200 and a cased Victorian demi parure for £420, both to London dealers. H For anyone thinking of selling, Siiverwoods holds
