gathered massive pace over the last few years and it now ranks among the most memorabie of occasions for most teenagers and is a real milestone to mark the end of their school years. Preparations start months in

advance. Every girl dreams of looking her absolute best on such a major occasion in her life and there's a lot to think about. Once "the" dress has been chosen,

it is on to nails, tanning, make-up and hair - not forgetting matching acces sories and jeweliery for the big night.

T'S that time of year again... when school leavers of the Ribble Valley start planning in earnest for

By Katie Hammond The boys are also keen to look their

best, so it IS essential to consider whether to buy or hire suitabie attire for the occasion, and this all needs to be considered well in advance. Kelly Dixon, co-proprietor of Ame

lia's in Moor Lane, Clitheroe, expiains why the right outfit is usuaily the starting point in prom preparation. "The girls we see are so excited

about theirlWg night and so keen to get their outfit just right," she says. "We tend to find that dress designs

and this year we're seeing that reflected in lots of bold bright colours and Grecian inspired styles. "Here at Amelia's, we guarantee

that no-one else will be able to buy the same dress from us, so they don't run the risk of turning up on the night in the same outfit as someone else. We also appreciate that the cost of

the dresses can be prohibitive and so we offer a monthly payment plan to make things easier for the girls and their, as we appreciate how costs can escalate for such a big occasion." Rebecca Ford, of Elan Boutique,

Clitheroe, adds that this year has seen girls looking for quirkier styles to show originality. "We stock some really different style dresses, from an American range which offer some thing a little edgier," she says.

"We also have an in-house tailor

who can make alterations to suits for the boys, as we've had quite a few requests for a skinnier style, more tailored look." Proms have become famous over

recent years for increasingly ostenta tious modes of transport, ensuring the pupils arrive in style. Ribble Valley school events have seen everything from luxury limousines to a helicop ters and even a fire engine. 2011 will no doubt see another

successful and memorable prom season for all involved and after all the preparation and planning is over, it is important to remember that the true purpose of this special night is to wave goodbye to school years, spend time with special friends and make it a night to remember.
