Clltheroe Advertiser &Tlmes,Ttiursday, October 6,2011 A tree-

A TALK on tree planting in the Ribbie Valley followed the annual g e n e r a l meting- of Clitheroe Civic Society. The speaker was Ribbie

Valley Borough Council’s countryside o f f ic e r David H ew it t , who highlighted the need for some research to be done when planting any trees in the borough. v He explained that, in

the C lith e ro e town area, there was a need to explore what.type of tree is suitable for the

environment that presents

• itself. Before planting any

tree, several factors needed to be taken account of, such as where it was to be planted (on open ground, pavements, v. near buildings etc), what was lurking under the ground in the way of sewage or water pipes or utilities supplies, and the depth and quality of the soil.
