A LIFELINE service which enables local people to live independently in their own homes for longer is under threat unless more volunteers come forward to help provide it. The Women’s Royal Voluntary Serv
ice (WRVS) is best known for running its Meals on Wheels service in and around the Clitheroe area, which is invaluable to
• the many people who use it. However, the local WRVS also pro
vides a shopping service for those who find it difficult to get out and shop for themselves. ■ For the volunteer shoppers, the work
,one or, in some cases, taking that per son shopping. Those benefiting from the scheme are referred to the WRVS by Social Services, but more volunteer shoppers are needed to keep it running smoothly. Judith Hitchen, project manager for
the WRVS, explained: “Our service ena bles people to be independent as long as possible in their own home. The differ ence you could make to someone’s life is huge and very rewarding for you, and all expenses are paid. “If you feel you could help, please con
