Perfectly matched Valley boasts record numbers of Scouts

THE number of Scouts in Clitheroe Dis-,- trict has reached a record number. '.-7 ■ : . The organisation has enjoyed a 10.5% increase in the number of young people . who are taking part in Scouting activi ties.

Currently 471 youngsters, between the

ages of six and 25, take part in a variety of activities from camping and cooking, to meeting MPs and making a difference in their community. And next year a group of 11 Explorer

Scouts will travel to Sweden to take part in the World Scout Jamboree. Over three weeks they will meet more

..than 30,000 Scouts from around 216 .countries.

V Clithcroe and District Scouts consists o f 11 groups located across the Ribble Valley and is one o f seven districts in East Lancashire. ' The increase in the number of Scouts

in Clitheroe and surrounding villages now means more adult helpers are need ed.'-

been offered that spot I would’ve under stood the logic.’’; ■

and Conservative candidates had declined the offer to go on the show, so at that point he also.dechned the invitation. • Mr.Knox; added: .“The final straw was

the week before when I tuned, into the show expecting to hear one of the other candidates and instead heard the show’s producer indulge in a diatribe recom mending that all non-English people and non-Christians should be deported. “I came to the conclusion that appear

ing on the show would only serve to give credibility to those views. “There are many talented people in

volved in Ribble Valley Media who pro duce entertaining and professional shows. However, they are all being let down by the bias of the political show. “As soon as the fren^ of the election is

over I will be seeking a meeting with those in charge of Ribble Valley Media to ask how they intend to remove.bias and big otry from their political programming.” Responding to Mr Knox’s claims, the

show’s producer, Mr Loebell, hotly denied any and all accusations of bias. He said: “The show - a first of its kind
