SANDWICHED between two not-so-
' good days, the weather on Saturday turned out to be glorious for the 82nd annual Chipping Agricultural and Horticultural Show. , ■. The visitors arrived early for the
start of a very eventful and successful show, tvith a record attendance of well- over the 5,000 who enjoyed last year’s. . There were excellent entries in the
cattle, sheep, horses and poultry classes as well as in the horticulture and hand icraft sections, while there were record entries in the cheese section, too. One of the highlights of the show is
the shire horses in their magnificent livery pulling a dray from Thwaites Brewery. Also very popular, especially
• with the children, were the horses and> Shetland ponies.
•
Following the parade of animals in the main arena a magician entertained, ; a dog show was held and the hounds
and whip of the Holcombe Hunt gave a colourful demonstration, as
did.the sheep dog trial display team. The vintage vehicles and machinery
were a hit with the fathers and there were lots of entries in the children’s sports and the fell race. The lawn mower racing kept everyone amused, all culminating in the finale of egg throwing. The many trade stands and food and
beer tents all did brisk trade on the sunny afternoon and a craft marquee was packed with local rural crafts. Special visitors to the show were the
Deputy Mayor of the Kibble Valley Coun. Lois Rimmer with her husband Gordon as her consort who enjoyed lunch with show officials and guests. Summing up, show secretary Mr
Stanley Bullock said: “It was absolute ly brilliant and could not have been better, the best ever show.”
