. Hyndburn magistrates heard th a t ' James Anthony Ford charged towards his partner, grabbed her by the neck and started to punch her about the head and sides. • But Ford said his partner had hit him first and claimed the argument had flared up because she had taken their children to Blackburn when she went to “score” heroin. Ford, of Petrewood Close,.
Langho, pleaded guilty, to assaulting Rachel Ford. He was remanded on bail for the prepa ration of a pre-sentence report.
Mr John Wood (prosecuting)
said that Ford had been in prison for 18 months for possession of an imitation firearm, and when he was released Miss Ford had got used to living on her own and asked him to move out of her home in Clitheroe. , . - On the day of the incident, she
took the children to Blackburn to buy shoes and got back around 6-30 p.m. Ford came round and he was drunk. “An argument started because
he wanted them to go to his flat and eventually she told him to leave,” said Mr Wood.
, “During the attack that fol lowed, he at one stage picked up a mirror and she thought he was going to hit her with it.” ;; Miss Ford said her daughters
were screaming throughout the incident.-: '
■ Mr Gareth Price (defending), said his client did not accept everything the Crown had put forward. •
“He vehemently denies pick
ing up the mirror. He says he was sat with the girls on the settee when she came up to him and hit him across the face. He accepts
' he then retaliated and he knows he was wrong,” said Mr Price. He added that Ford was a
reformed heroin addict and he became aware that when she was in Blackburn she had scored some heroin. “ She had spent money on
heroin and his -view was that was money the family could not afford,” said Mr Price.
