THE curtain will go up on Showstoppers at ’Trinity Methodist Church from ’Tues­ day, August 25th until Friday, August 28th. This will be the fourth consecutive hol­

Medieval market fun for Clitheroe


KNIGHTS in shining armour will be just one of the attractions when Clitheroe Castle hosts a Medieval mar­ ket later this month. . On Saturday, August 22nd,


the Castle Grounds will be home to a medley , of medieval-themed fun, includ­ ing stalls selling great local produce, children’s activities provided ■ by Lancashire Museums Service, games, re­ enactments and local real ales. The event, which will run ■


from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m,. has been organised jointly by the Museums Service, Ribble Valley Borough Council and catering business Gold and Brown, which runs the new ■ Castle Museum, Caffetessen.


■ There will be a host of r activities and entertainment, ■ from medieval re-enactors to face painting, hog roasts to . arts and crafts and every-' thing in-between. Proceeds will go to the ;

AN event which dates back to before the Second World War

The historic Downham Hall . opened its gardens to the pub­ lic on the first weekend in-


. August as part of an ongoing Assheton family tradition. : .


More than 400 ■ visitors took the opportunity to look round the hall's gardens, with proceeds from the event going towards Downham Village Hall and the Downham Trust, which aims to enhance the environ­ ment and beauty of the village and surrounding area.
