■ Street, will close for good this month as owners Ken and Elaine Readfem head into a well-deserved retirement. The friendly faihily business,
which has been awarded a string of titles by the Guild of Cleaners and Launderers, has for the past 11 years been run by. the husband-and-wife; team, along with their daughter KirstenTheaker. -
_ The trio have built up such a repu

■ Clean is the only dry cleaners in Whalley and within a month of tak ing over the business, we noticed an increased turnover.” The 63-year-old explained that,
despite the modern machinery, it was the personal touch of Ken, Elaine and Kirsten that brought customers back.
■ . “We strived to provide a firstclass
service at all times and tried to raise the standard expected from dry cleaners," he said. “With this in mind, we sometimes found ourselves working from 6 am. to 10 p.m. six days-a-week. Often I would spend.
three hours trying to get ink out of a jacket or other tough stains from ' garments.” He added: “I t was .quite

FORMER Guide leader. Miss Edith Mary Milne, who will celebrate her 100th birthday later this month; is hoping to hear from some of her old Guide troop. Miss Milne, who was better
; known as “Horace” when she lived in the Ribble Valley, turns 100 on August 22nd and would love to get in touch with any of her former Guides.
Guide Gaptain for 2nd
Glitheroe S t Mary’s Parish Church from approximately 1946. to 1962, Miss Milne, who now. lives in Canada, worked at Wad- dow Hall, near Waddington, where she also lived. Friends, colleagues and Guides
will remember her as a great Guide Captain, who took her Guides camping each year to des tinations across the country including Devon, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. In order to keep the cost down
for parents, the Guides used to hold fund-raising coffee mornings,' jumble sales and collected rose hips to make syrup, meaning they only had to pay £2,10 shillings. Miss Milne can be contacted at
158 EUerslie Avenue, Willowdale, Ontario, Canada, M2N lYA. Our picture shows Miss Milne
