IT’S business as usual for a Clitheroe market trader who has recently taken
over a busy pet stall. Following on from our story featured in ;
the January 8th edition of the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times about long-serving stallholders Raymond and Carol Briggs retiring, we can now reveal 29-year-old Ian. Hunter, is the new owner.

recognition awards to branches which demonstrate unique ways of providing services and make a real contribution to the local community.

Legion stalwart Joyce has died at age of 86
■A ;YORKSHIRE lass who ran the British Legion in Mearley Street, Clitheroe, has died at the age of 86. ■Mrs Joyce Hall (pictured)
was born in the coal mining area of Goldthorpe on May 5 th ' 1922. ' Her mother died when she
was just four-years-old and by the time she was six, Joyce knew how to bake a stone of bread using the coal oven. She joined the army when she
was 21, originally working in the cook house. She was nicknamed “Topsy” and served during the blitz, working in Coventry, Liv erpool and Bournemouth.
She married her husband,:
Sidney, in October 1949 and the couple together ran the British Legion in Clitheroe.
■ .. They had four sons, Tony,
Michael, Peter and Philip; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Joyce enjoyed cooking, gar
dening and travelling. In 1978 she enjoyed a four-week holiday in Tasmania following the cricket. When she was 70 she. went to India and was proud to say she had travelled on top of an elephant. Joyce enjoyed a long life of
celebration and although a Yorkshire girl, she loved Lan cashire and especially Clitheroe.

A FILM club in Avill start showing mo-vies in the music room at the back of the New Inn pub, Clitheroe, next ■ month.

to be known as the Ribble Film Club, will use the Parson Lane pub for its twice-monthly screenings. . ' The club showed 35mm films at The Grand arid St Mary's Centre until they both closed-as cinemas. : : It will start screening films on Sun

first and third Sundays of each month from7-30p.m.- ; Bruce Dowles, secretary, of the club, said: “This is culture free at the •point of delivery and a first for Ribble,
