tive from the age of 40. I t uses cur rent therapy to stimulate the facial muscles to tone and improve where wrinkles and lines may be, or where the skin has lost some elasticity, administered by expertly-trained beauty therapists at the Woodland Spa. ■ The treatment promises to make eyes look brighter, give a healthy glow, velvety softness and clarity to the skin and erase fine lines and wrinkles. Mrs Susan Lyons (55) went along
to the Woodland Spa to try the Cari ta “Pro-Lift” at first hand. She said: “The therapist, Karen, explained the full extent of the treatment she was going to give to me. This included a
full facial using Carita’s specially developed massage creams and oils, a treatment of “Pro-Lift”: • “Karen then cleansed my skin, removing all make-up and then
; moved on to exfoliating with a spe cialist facial scrub. This felt good and made my skin feel clean and tingling like it had been woken up. Eye and lip serum pads were then applied and left on for around 10' minutes and made the skin there feel fresher and smoother. “While these were doing their job,
a hand and foot massage was given using Carita oils and then moved onto the “Pro-Lift” experience. This is a non-surgical face lift where two pads were used that were connected to a computer which controlled the amount of therapy to stimulate the skin. It felt tingly to the skin but not at all uncomfortable.

I ‘Going to ^the dogs’ wins top award!
FROZEN in full flight by the click of a camera shutter, these two g rey h o u n d s helped Bob ■ Patefield win the open section of Ribblesdale Camera Club’s annu al competition for digital projec tions. Entitled simply “Yahoo!”, it per
fectly captures the thrill of the chase as the dogs speed towards the cam era. Bob is a relatively new member of the club, as is second-placed Sue Marsden, whose prizewinning crick eting shot, “Take That!”, froze the ball just after it had come off the deftly-swung b a t.: ■ Bob and Sue also received a third
place and a highly commended, proving their consistency, with Stephen Robinson placed fourth ivith “Coming in Low”. Although still a fairly new medi

Kath Baron achieved a very creditable fourth while ’Trevor Marklew had a Highly ■ Commended. ■ . Trevor did even better by winning
the nature section with “Humming Bird”. Jeff Cowhng was second Mth “Gecko” and Stephen Robinson came third \vith “Smging Dunnock”, while John Fletcher was fourth \vith “Sparrow Hawk”. The fmal section. Record, was won
by Nigel Mallinson with “H. R. Geiger Girls”, pictured. Nigel also came second with a second image from the same sculpture group. Ken Geddes was third with “Cutter Head, Salt Mine”, while Stephen - Robinson was placed fourth with
“Salmon Store, Clitheroe Castle”. ® The two meetings prior to the
competition each had a local flavour. First, the club’s secretary Ken Ged des gave a talk on the construction of Stock’s Reservoir, concentrating on the narrow gauge railways used at this remote site. Social aspects of the project were covered and the final section took members for a walk around the lake, using the paths. The following week was a simple
but enjoyable evening when a num ber of members brought images that were interesting, but unlikely to be seen in competition. The club held its annual dinner, at
the Bailey Arms, Hurst Green. Information on the club, which

Police ‘ring’ tightened round county criminals
A “RING of steel” was placed around East Lancashire this week as police supported a major operation aimed at disrupting serious and organised crime. As part of the week-long operation,
officers used Automatic Number Place Recognition (ANPR) systems to robustly target criminals who travel into Eastern Division from other parts of the country. ; Neighbourhood Policing teams in the
Shadsworth area of Blackburn joined forces with the local authority, fire and Probation Service for a three-day com munity clean-up and officers in Hynd- burn worked with Trading Standards to focus on alcohol-related violent crime in Blackburn town centre. Additional highly--visible police offi
cers have been on duty throughout the operation, which was made possible due to extra resources the constabulary has received through the increase in the part of this year’s Council Tax which
pays for policing. Superintendent Chris Bithell, leading the operation for East ern Division, said: “This operation should demonstrate our commitment to protect the people who are living and working in the Division as well as showing our determination to deal robustly with criminals who think we are a soft touch. “I have no doubt that our activity
during the week ivill have a significant impact on serious and organised crime, which we know can have such a devas tating impact on our communities. “My message to criminals is that you
are not welcome in Eastern Division and if you come here to commit crime, we will target you and endeavour to bring you to justice.” If anyone has any information or is
concerned about crime in their neigh bourhood, they are urged to contact
. police on 0845 1253545 or Crimestop- pers anonymously on 0800 555111.
DO you live m Ribble Valley and want to know more about local public trans port, or do you have any ideas on how community tran sp o r t might be improved? It so, you are invited to Rib ble Valley’s popular annual public transport forum. The event will be held in the Ribble
