IDEAS to encourage young people in Christ ian communities could be in line for cash grants up to £3,000. The Blackburn diocese has been awarded £35,000 by the Church of England to help
develop links tvith its local young people. Diocesan youth officer Craig Abbott said
only submissions from young people them selves will be considered. “The aim is to get the money into the hands
of young people, and let them run with it. He added: “The type of things the church is look ing for is Christian Union mission in schools, providing accommodation for a youth group with nowhere to meet, or staging youth

events.”Grants from £200 to £3,000 will be available and applications from youngsters aged between 11 and 20, backed by sponsoring adults, are welcome. Said Mr Abbott: “I am just happy to see this fund as an opportunity to build new relationships between churches and young people, and to help further those Q ; that have that sort of relationship now.”

ONE of three outstanding prints in a competition for camera clubs across the region came from Ribblesdale Camera Club. Club secretary Ken Geddes’s shot “Sunset
Sunloungers”, shown right, was one of just three prints from the total entry of 111 to earn the maximum 20 marks and a certifi cate. Overall, the Ribblesdale Club finished
mid-table, with members able to view all the entries, together ivith the judges’ marks and comments, at a recent meeting. 'The club meets every Tuesday at West
Bradford Village Hall from 7-30 p.m. At another meeting a dozen different members made contributions of pictures taken throughout 2007 and in a short time the audience “visited” many parts of the world. Last week the Lancashire and Cheshire

Thanks for the blood
THE National Blood Service has said a huge thank you to blood donors in the Ribble Val ley for coming forward to save lives over the flu-rid den festive season, as well as helping boost blood stocks in recent weeks. Blood stocks have been
on the increase during January as regular donors have recovered from seasonal illnesses and returned to give blood. Rachel Hollingworth,
for the NBS, said: “We’d‘ like to say a huge thank. you to all our donors. Those of you who man aged to dodge the bugs
over the festive season and make it to a blood donation session really did help ensure we were able to meet all hospital requests for blood. We’d also like to thank every one who has come for ward in response to our appeals in recent weeks and helped boost blood stocks for patients.” Anyone aged 17 to

Works of art from city to be unveiled
NEW works of ar t were due to be unveiled at a Clitheroe housing scheme yesterday. Residents from St Vincent’s Man
chester Foyer have created pieces to be hung at the organisation’s new housing scheme - Castle Keep in Clitheroe. Formerly known as the Kirkmoor
Road comicil depot, the new develop ment comprises rented apartments, shared ownership houses and a sup ported bungalow. St Vincent’s has invested £2.4m on this project. The idea behind it was to introdua|
the young residents of St Vincen® Manchester Foyer to a culture, way of life and environment different from their own. The artwork was Inspired by a field trip to the Ribble Valley and will help brighten up the interior walls at Castle Keep. The residents ivill be voting for their
favourite painting and the Mayor of the Ribble Valley,-Coun. Doreen Tay lor, was to present prizes and certifi cates to the winners yesterday.
