IDEAS to encourage young people in Christ ian communities could be in line for cash grants up to £3,000. The Blackburn diocese has been awarded £35,000 by the Church of England to help

develop links tvith its local young people. Diocesan youth officer Craig Abbott said

only submissions from young people them selves will be considered. “The aim is to get the money into the hands

of young people, and let them run with it. He added: “The type of things the church is look ing for is Christian Union mission in schools, providing accommodation for a youth group with nowhere to meet, or staging youth

e

events.”Grants from £200 to £3,000 will be available and applications from youngsters aged between 11 and 20, backed by sponsoring adults, are welcome. Said Mr Abbott: “I am just happy to see this fund as an opportunity to build new relationships between churches and young people, and to help further those Q ; that have that sort of relationship now.”

Thanks for the blood

THE National Blood Service has said a huge thank you to blood donors in the Ribble Val ley for coming forward to save lives over the flu-rid den festive season, as well as helping boost blood stocks in recent weeks. Blood stocks have been

on the increase during January as regular donors have recovered from seasonal illnesses and returned to give blood. Rachel Hollingworth,

for the NBS, said: “We’d‘ like to say a huge thank. you to all our donors. Those of you who man aged to dodge the bugs

over the festive season and make it to a blood donation session really did help ensure we were able to meet all hospital requests for blood. We’d also like to thank every one who has come for ward in response to our appeals in recent weeks and helped boost blood stocks for patients.” Anyone aged 17 to

60,weighing over 7st 121bs (50 kg) and in gen eral good health could potentially start saving lives by becoming a blood donor. For more informa tion on becoming a blood donor, call 0845 7711711 or visit www.blood.co.uk
