Su#ey to enhance Valley economy
by Duncan Smith
C O N SUM E R S an d trad e rs in th e Ribble Valley are being invit ed to have their say on sh o p p in g a n d th e business environment as p a r t of a borough wide retail survey. The employment, land
and retail survey will paint an economic pic-
- ture of the borough and help decision-makers understand how and
'when local retail facili ties are being used. It is being undertaken
by Ribble Valley Bor ough Council in conjunc tion with Lancashire
County Developments Ltd - Lancashire Coun ty Council’s economic development company. Over the coming
weeks, 900 residents will be asked in person or by phone about their shop ping habits, such as where they buy food, clothes and footwear, household electrical items, books and CDs. They will also be
asked what they do in their leisure time and where they access a wide, range of goods and serv ices, such as banking and health. More than 150 high
street businesses will also receive paper ques tionnaires asking how
many people they employ, the type of facil ities they use and their accommodation require ments for the future. The results of the survey will be used to guide and inform sustainable eco nomic development in Ribble Valley. Coun. Richard Sher-
'as, chairman of the council’s planning com mittee, said: “The sur vey will help us establish what actions we need to take to support the local economy and we are encouraging as many people as possible to take part.” County Coun. Niki
Penney, chairman of LCDL, said; “It is vital
that we gain an under standing of the economic climate in Ribble Valley, so that we can work in partnership with the borough council to sup port and enhance the local economy.” The survey is being
undertaken by Warring ton-based BE Group, a multi-disciplinary com pany- incorporating regeneration, property and planning services. If you would like to
take part in the survey or make your views know, contact Ribble Valley Borough Coun cil’s forward planning officer, Phil Dagnall, on 01200 414570.
