; Rolls-Royce . . . . . . . . . 3 IVaddinglon . . . . . . . . .5 AFTER sealing the First Division championship on the previous Saturday, Waddington won their last game in style. With the return of Ian

Walsh in goal, Wadding ton pinned Rolls-Royce back and soon went ahead with a'goal from Martin Cane. Peter Fletcher then

made i t 2-0 from the penalty spot before half time. After the break and still

in control enjoying most of the play, Waddingtoh went 3-0 in front with a cool fin ish from Mark Harrison. The home side came back, however, and scored

■ to narrow the odds but this come back was short lived as Cane retaliated with another goal after fooling the back four to slot past the keeper. Attack after attack saw

the locals go 5-1 ahead when Steven Holden beat two players to find Fletch er who made no mistake with his finish.

The locals pushed for more goals but were

.caught twice with two quick strikes before the final whistle. This result ensured

Waddington a clear nine- point lead to win the Craven League champi onship over local rivals WFC. Waddington would like

to thank all their sponsors and spectators for their support this season. Waddington are pic

tured with their trophy. (A260405/8)

Sunday. The chairman has prom ised me the extra money required, and.from now until August I ’m going to be very busy, and it is a must situation that I find the bread and butter players I ’m looking for. “I ’m speaking to a couple of

players this week, and I’ll be try ing to get them registered with the club as soon as possible, but I won’t get into an auction. “If other clubs are competing

before I go on holiday in June, but realistically I probably won’t ' know for certain until pre-season who I’ll be working with.” , Turning his attention to last

Saturday’s goal glut against Rocester, Byron was extremely pleased with how his side rose to the occasion to comprehensively to record the league’s joint high-

' est scoreline on the final day. He said: “They weren’t a good

side but they were still there to be' beaten, and to knock six past them was an achievement. “Teams have beaten Rocester

by four or five goals this season, but no one has won by six! After the first two goals went in, the lads were brimming with confi dence and we were just enjoying ourselves from then on.” And he had special praise for

four-goal Lee Ciyer who was spot on all afternoon: “ I had a word . with Lee afterwards to compli ment him on his last two goals in particular, as those were the kind of strikes he has been missing. It’s just a pity he wasn’t scoring like that two months ago.” Aside from the playing staff,

another equally important job needs a worthy successor. 'The club are actively searching for a new groundsman for next season, as after over 50 years of service to Clitheroe FC, club stalwart Keith Lord has finally decided to call it a day. ■ ,

, _ Keith, who in his time with the

club has also been physio, vice chairman, and on a couple of occa-' sions even manager, will be difficult to replace, but anybody interested in the paid position, or who would like to know further details, should contact either chairman John Robinson (07971205314), or club secretaiy Colin Wilson (424370).
