26 Clitheroe Advertiser &Times, Thursday, November 3rd, 2005 Left in stitches

MORE than 150 people were left in stitches during Clitheroe’s premier Come dy Night at St Mary’s Centre. Organised by Ribble

Valley Radio Community Group, the event raised £800 for the community radio station, due to broadcast later this month. Featuring five popular

acts from the comedy cir cuit, each one treated the audience to a 20 minute slot of live, stand-up come dy.

Booked by committee

member, Mr Martin Crab tree, the evening, which was the first of its kind in Clitheroe, was hailed as a success. “I t was a really good

night and everyone had a splendid time,” he said. Our picture shows MC

Dave Twentyman, with comedians Steve Shanyas- ki, Vince Atta and Damion Larkin at the comedy night. (D291005/1)

Missing rabbit is back home

A MISSING rabbit has been returned to its worried owners thanks to the efforts of a Clitheroe family. Rebecca Magee and her two children

Rosie (nine) and Louis (seven), of Siddows Avenue, stumbled upon the beiaggled rab bit named “Zoe” after leaving a relative’s house on Brownlow Street. Rebecca explained how the long-haired

rabbit, which had escaped from its home on Whalley Road, was sheltering under a car and looked so dishevelled that they decided to take it home. This was easier said than done though.

ban on market A BAN has been placed on Clitheroe’s Wednesday night Poultry, Pur and Feather Market as a precaution to prevent an outbreak of bird flu. Lancashire Trading Stan

I

dards have closed the mar ket, held at Clitheroe Auc tion Mart, until further notice, in line with Govern ment advice. The new measures have

been agreed by the European Commission and prohibit by law, the staging of bird mar kets, shows, fairs and similar events where poultry or caged birds may be brought together. Jim Potts, chief Trading

Standards officer, said: “We are working with Defra to enforce the ban on bird mar kets and will be monitoring the areas where markets usu ally take place to make sure that no trading is going on.” He added: “I would advise

any bird fanciers who are organising meetings and competitions to contact Defra or have a look at their website as they may now need a licence depending on the nature of the meeting.”

with a frightened Zoe giving the family the runaround for about an hour. On finally catching the fluffy bundle, the

family became quite attached to Zoe, look ing after her for a week before reading the appeal in last week’s Clitheroe Advertiser and Times. Trinity childcare worker Rebecca, who

had already registered Zoe in the lost and found book at the local vets, immediately returned the rabbit to the rightful owners. The little girl whose rabbit it was, pre

sented the Magee family with a box of chocolates and a thank you letter.

Flu precaution Winter fair date on Saturday

A WINTER fair and com munity information day will be hosted in Clitheroe on Saturday by Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Council for Voluntary Service (CVS). The event runs at the St

Mary’s Centre, in Church Street, from I I a.m. to 3 p.m. and attractions include face painting.

PUDDING queen Helen Colley, founder of award winning Ribble Valley company Farmhouse Fare, will be on the national air waves this weekend. Helen, whose company

produces a range of deli cious puddings sold through national super market chains, will feature on “The Pood Programe” on BBC Radio Four. She

DAMAGE estimated at around £100 was caused when vandals targeted a Volkswagen Polo. The Y-reg- istered vehicle was parked in

refreshments, raffles, tombola and a chance to fnd out more about the CVS and its work. The fair also coincides with the National Lottery’s 11th birthday and to mark the occasion there will be Lotto freebies and giveaways and the chance to win £100,000. Admission to the fair is free.

Weekend radio date for Helen

travelled down to London th is week to record an interview, due to be broad cast at 12-30 p.m. on Sun day and repeated at 4-30 p.m. on Monday. Helen started out run

ning an outside catering company from her moth er’s farmhouse kitchen in Gisburn and is now head of a national concern.

Vandals targeted a VW Polo

St Mary’s Street, Clitheroe, when the offenders snapped off the wing mirror. Police investigations are continuing into the incident.
