number of models offering excellent value for money. But why should you opt for one of these over, say, the big-selling Citroen Xsara Picasso? Firstly, there may be some Avho had consid

ered the Tacuma but had rejected it on the grounds that they did not fancy a car that wore a flame-effect gas fire for a front grille. Yes, the Pininfarina design was pretty swoopy in profile but that grille was a touch hard to stomach. Fortunately the designers have seen sense and replaced the toothy chromium bars with a far more subtle affair tliat comprises a broad strip that runs horizontally across the intake. The almond-shaped headlights are of the latest GM Daewoo family look and there are revised 15 in. alloy wheels available as an option. The interior of the five-seat Tacuma also

features a fresh new look for the 2004 model year. Two new fabric designs for the SE, SX and C D X versions considerably freshen the interior. The range-topping version has a metallic finish on the instrument panel and is additionally equipped with remote control central locking, including alarm. Air condi tioning is available to provide full control of interior temperatures and is offered on all models bar the entry-level SE. Otherwise the proposition is much as before,

To put it in perspective, that is between £1,500 and £1,800 less than you would pay for rivals like Citroen’s Xsara Picas so or Renault’s Scenic. And that is before you take equipment into account. Special edition models are often available offering even more enticing deals although you will need to speak to your GM Daewoo retailer to get the best bargains here.

'With a fuel consumption aver age of 32 m.p.g., the 1.6 is considerably less thirsty and emits less carbon dioxide than its predecessor. As well as the styling, there has been a

fairly fundamental change to the car’s interior that seems to run counter to all prevailing trends. As many manufacturers struggle to contrive ways to lever seven seats into their wares, Honda has ditched the old Stream’s seven-seat layout and instead opted for a six-seater configuration

which offers a litt le more in the way of shoulder room. The cabin continues to offer throe rows of seats, but the latest Stream ditches the previous version’s mid dle row bench seat in favour of a pair of captain’s chair seats separated by a centre console that contains a pair of cupholders. A l l the remaining seats have been redesigned to give bettor support. Wliat makes the Stream genuinely inno

vative is the fact that Honda’s engineers have set out to make it genuinely fun to drive. ’I’he limited range of engine options may

yet count against the Stream and it would serve the company well to plumb the superb CTD-i diesel engine into forthcom ing variants. ,Even as it stands and with a clioice of mere manual or automatic, the Stream is worthy of consideration. Espe cially if you cannot stand mini-MPVs.
